The Lyceum will be the end of many a BRD run.
QFT! You couldn’t be more correct in that statement.
How about just remove repairs. Gear breaks, gotta replace
On quest runs for Mara, ST, and BRD 4 hours would be a dream.
1.12 wasnt the authentic vanilla experience. But neithet was 1.1 which is too much. Something in the midfle would be nice.
You keep hearing. Let’s just wait and see first.
Don’t forget, new server, new characters, starting from scratch. People aren’t running twinks through these dungeons.
After playing some other mmo’s progression servers I’ve noticed people tend to forget these things. You likely will not have optimal gear for these dungeons, especially first run through.
What if I’m alliance bro? WHAT THEN?
But Classic won’t have the “talents and itemization people have now.” We’ll all have the talents and itemizations that were in vanilla WoW as of the 1.12 patch. The only “leg up” anyone is going to have will be knowing the layout of the dungeons and raids and what the mobs/bosses are going to do. And those who didn’t come aboard until Cataclysm aren’t even going to have that …
Whether we’re successful or not is going to depend primarily on how well we remember to USE those vanilla-like talents and take advantage of those vanilla-like itemizations. Just as an example … how many hunters do you think are still proficient with misdirection, and the use of traps? (Remember, those are all available to BM, MM, SV depending on where the player puts the talent points.) How many locks, spriests, mages are still familiar with the different methods of crowd-control, which is virtually useless in current WoW?
Shudders …
I wouldn’t be opposed to changes at all, for Classic. I have always been FOR the balancing of some specs, to make them better suited in PvE (hybrids, mostly) and the better balancing of bosses to keep this exact thing from happening.
That being said…Classic will be #NoChanges, and im fine with that. People will see that the content is trivialized from Day 1 and that’s just the way it’s gunna be. shrugs Ill play regardless.
P servers are not horribly inaccurate in the context of running dungeons, that is a generalisation and they are the best measure of portraying how poeple today deal with 2004-2006 mechanics, which are mostly correct.
It won’t be hard for people that have done the content before, but I think some people that started in later expansion will be surprised by the dungeons a bit. It’s not hard mechanics wise but you have a lot less tools to use so you can’t just pull multiple packs and use cds or stuns to live and then do the same in another minute. Shield wall has a 30 min cd, warriors aoe taunt has a 10 min cd. Aggro is a thing, mana is a thing, and healers don’t have 5 major cds they can use to save the entire group.
Trap aggro and no launcher… going to see A LOT of hunters get wtf’d.
You missed the point ENTIRELY. The 1.12 talents and itemization are much better than the talents and itemization people had when MC was released as well as the ones people had when BwL released. For example, tanks would only go into the Prot tree just for talents relatively early in it like Last Stand, Defiance, and Improved Shield Block and just put the rest in Arms or Fury until 1.11 where they gave the version of Shield Slam that wasn’t a waste of talent points. Itemization early on had spirit on a lot of items when it was only useful for Priests and Druids. Spell damage (back then Intellect did not increase the damage your spells do) was very rare on gear.
You didn’t make that point in your previous post. You said “what they have now,” indicating May 2019, not 2004.
Be that as it may … yes, it will be somewhat easier than it was initially because we’ll have all the modifications that were made up through 1.12 patches. But that is not going to be enough to charge in like we do now. Most dungeons and raids now are kill-fests with hardly no one ever dying, no mana depletion that causes players to have to stop and drink a potion to regenerate, just pull pull pull kill kill kill. 'T’ain’t gonna be that way with 1.12 talents and abilities, unless corpse runs are your thing. Boss special abilities will still have to be countered, with the tools from 13 years ago, not the ones we have now. Being a hunter, I’m going to be especially affected; know how long it’s been since hunters had to worry about running out of mana? Many of today’s hunters have NEVER had a mana bar to worry about.
And a lot of people are still going to be trying to FIND the boss because many of the instance lay-outs are not the same now as they were 13 years ago, thanks to Cataclysm. (Looking at you, Scarlet Monastery, Sunken Temple, Black Rock Depths, and many others.)
You realize that we are getting the version of MC that was nerfed to be just the stepping stone for BwL right instead of the one that was made to be the final tier of the time. It would be like releasing a new raid tier in retail with nerfs that would be applied a few months later right at the raid launch.
Yep, and I also know that the current mind-set of a lot of folks is that they’re going to blow through it the same way they do now. Especially the post-Cataclysm folks who have absolutely no idea what the original talents and abilities were like. Gonna be a whole lot of corpse runs …
The guilds from the private servers will STEAMROLL MC/Ony the week they start it. MC would be cleared within an hour of its launch if they waited a week or two to release it instead of at launch. That’s not just the top guilds from those servers either (except the 1 hour thing would be only the top ones). It’s any guild with leadership and at least 20 or so competent raiders with private server exp that will STEAMROLL it. They shouldn’t have a hard time because they are nearly perfect at the mechanics by now, but the tuning should at least resemble the difficulty of MC on it’s release.
We’ll just have to wait and see. The pServer folks WILL have a leg up on everyone, even if it’s just continuing familiarity with a part of the game a lot of us “remember” (however accurate or inaccurate that may be), and will definitely be light-years ahead of those who have never seen the original Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor.
You’re not the first one to hold that pServer folks will cruise through it. But I’ve also seen some pServer folks in here stating that there ARE differences between what’s on the pServers and what was really available in the 1.12 patch. Of course, that could just be “wolfing” for the benefit of the non-pServer folks, sort of keeping the “pathway” clear of them.
It IS going to be an interesting ride. I’m one of those folks who plans to take it nice and easy and get the most enjoyment out of walking through the world again as I possibly can.
