Dungeon mechanics have become too complex to be fun

There’s a fine line between just stand there and attack/cast on a boss/mobs and everything just being a lot of chaos and consistent movement.

Wow’s dungeon design is shifting more toward being too chaotic and complex to be fun anymore.

Just to be clear I don’t want a dungeon to be nothing but boring standing in one single spot to attack/cast. It’s just gone too far in the other direction and needs to be reigned in a bit.

I think the modern dungeon design team is pretty good.

I just think half of the mechanics they put in this game are bad.

I’m still mad at the time a boss put a bomb in my head so naturally I separated from my group…but turns out it was a soak mechanic and I wiped the group.

I’d argue that every xpac the design of M+ shifts more and more to organized groups on coms.

The punishment for missed cc or mis-timed defensives gets more severe each season. It makes pugging keys painful and it TWW is by far the most abandoned keys I’ve been apart of.

This particularly affects physically/visually impaired/disabled folk (arthritis, hand tremors, etc.) and the neurodivergent (obv. not all of them) - neither of whom get thought where it matters, when it comes to game design.

As a healer main, that’s not the problem.

The problem, almost every single damned time? The tank. They think they can just pull anything. Seriously, did the stonevault like 7 times yesterday. Almost every time, the tank tried to pull all the way to the boss room. That’s like four golems that can one-shot a lot of tanks, and all those castes with their fear. And all the aoe on the ground. the dps couldn’t even get in range to interrupt the fears and the only ranged person with an interrupt, got whoppered by the golems because tank didn’t have aggro.

Guess who gets blamed by the tank? Me.
Guess who left? Tank.
Guess who got relentlessly mocked by the dps for doing the stupidest crap ever? The tank.
I did eventually get a good 5 dungeons COMPLETED, not just started lol and those groups were all just random people that had about 600 ilvl and we did +4s. Well, I did +4s because I am farming an item.

But the problem is usually the tank being stupid with their pull, then after that it’s the dps who think they can pull ahead of the tank, and usually at the bottom of the list is the healer being utterly inept.
I have been that healer before, so I do know lol. But I also know that +5s can be done by people in 600 ilvl, yet for some reason it’s amost impossible to get invited into one even when you have the rating if your ilvl isn’t 610 or higher. And with the crap loot drops that make us dependent on the vault and catalyst to get anything, if it even gives you something practical.

There are a lot of other things, but imma stop.

My favorite part is how they forgot they still have 4-5 specs in the game that cannot do damage when they’re moving. So when you always have to move the entire time, it makes things… challenging.

I think the ONLY boss I agree with this on is last boss of Ara-Kara. I do not find it fun. Even on ranged, which makes it feel less chaotic, it’s just not an enjoyable fight.

A combination of how often each mechanic cycles and how frantic they can feel, I think.

All other bosses are just fine. Raid included. Raid especially, maybe, I like this tier.

Keys have only become easier over time (as far as rewards are concerned.)

Get out of this swirly. Stand in this swirly. Interrupt this cast. Ignore all other casts. Dispell this debuff. Don’t dispell this debuff. Dispell this other debuff but only after so much time. All of this over the same dungeon/fight.

They are kind of running out of ideas other than just “cause as much chaos and confusion as is humanly possible.”

On top of blizzard base UI cant tell you what you need to know. That is epic fail on a so called AAA game.

xiv has some interesting fights. wow can take some ideas. hell there is even
a game based off the raids from xiv thats pretty popular lol. their raids are just cool.
