Dungeon Lockouts

After entering and clearing a dungeon, what are the rules related to its lockout? Specifically:

  1. What is the reset timer on dungeons?
  2. If I begin a dungeon with one group, can I finish with a different group?
  3. If I kill a boss in one group then join another group, will I be able to kill that boss again?

I know these are basic questions, but I was really young when I played vanilla, and I cannot remember the answers.

as far as raids go, you’re locked to your ID once you get a boss kill. Dungeons have to be manually cleared if you intend to spam them IIRC. However you will be locked to a dungeon ID, so if you got kicked, or left, the group with the same dungeon ID would continue clearing it, and any bosses they kill would be killed in yours as well, meaning you’d need to reset it before entering for a fresh clear.

  1. I don’t know how long it takes to auto-reset, however, you can reset the dungeons any time by right clicking on your portrait and clicking reset all instances. There is a limit to how many times you can do this in a day, but the number is very high, I’ve never hit it doing normal runs of the dungeon.
  2. Yes
  3. Yes

I believe in vanilla it was limited to 5 runs a hour then you got locked out, later in Cata or MoP they increased the limit to 10 dungeon runs a hour

Wasn’t increased. It’s still 5/hr.

Unless you are farming a small portion of a dungeon you will not likely have an issue with resets in Classic if you are grouping and clearing/questing to end at the appropriate level of difficulty.

It was increased, it’s 10/hr now, but Classic is 5/hr.

Apparently it happened last year, BFA change. Guess thats why I missed it. Certainly wasn’t a thing before.

Nope, I farmed Uldaman in Legion, 10 lockouts as well. It was increased in either wotlk or cata, or mop.

Thanks for the replies everyone. This means my friends and I can clear BRD and other high-level dungeons for gear repeatedly. That’s good news.
