Is there a particular reason as to why Dungeons are so terrible for leveling this expac? I don’t remember having this much issue and I personally think doing the same quests over and over makes me go numb. I feel at least Dungeons are a bit more engaging.
In TWW dungeon lvling was very clearly superior, specially during early access it took like 2 hours to max a toon with basic dungeon spamming. This was nerfed after a couple days which made non-early-access people mad, but it was still very fast nonetheless. I think they didn’t want to suddenly make it bad, so they just kept it as is but I suppose their intention was to not let dungeons be so much faster and they carried this mentality over to Midnight probably with some overcorrection on top. So we end up with a horribly slow dungeon lvling experience.
It’s a reliable way to level, but it’s very rarely been the best. Firstly, you’d need instant queues, such as with a tank or healer, or a full group.
If you’re pugging into instant queues, you’re at the mercy of whatever group you’re given. Newbies, undergeared alts, bad players, and poor connections massively slow you down. Most groups don’t know skips, are oblivious, or combative with it, so you have to pull more then you need to.
The dungeons in Midnight have an ungodly amount of skippable trash, but good luck getting people to consistently do them. (Markers help, at least.)
TL;DR: Dungeons can be great… if the group is good. Otherwise, there’s more consistent methods.
Even after that exploit was fixed early on in TWW, Dungeon leveling was still pretty good and reliable. I remember leveling a few alts with friends who were super casual doing about 5-7 runs per session and getting about 5 levels a run~.
Even delves in season 3, idk if this was also a case in season 2, got changed so much that the XP was actually reliable way to lvl alts while sometimes gaining some delve progression (journey from hand ins, ability sockets for companion, companion xp hand ins, etc)
This was the case even when there were no bonus XP events (winds of myserious fort, darkmoon faire, etc) – why did Blizzard decide to significantly slash XP rewards from dungeons and delve completion going in Midnight launch? They went from being alt friendly in an awesome way to not.
I know there are ways to “power level” toons rn in Midnight but both are not means I enjoy doing (questing, AOE grinding mobs→ resetting instance)
