Hello, I can’t find any information on this anywhere so if anyone can shed some light on this it would be helpful to know. When queuing in dungeon finder with 4 members, the highest character in our party (this happened in mid 40’s and at 50) would be sometimes (not always) be dropped to level 30 and unable to use any abilities he would have learned after level 30. But there were also other party member that were above 30, sometimes in the mid 30’s and sometimes even others in the 40’s. I just want to know why he’s being dropped.
i would really like to know the answer to why this is happening as well. Kinda lame when you lose half your kit for no apparent reason.
Level requirements for the dungeon finder got loosened a lot, to allow players who ‘outlevel’ a dungeon to queue with lower level players who are eligible for them. The higher-level players in these cases get scaled down to an ‘appropriate’ level for the dungeon, but unlike with Timewalking, this scaling down locks any abilities gained at a level above what the player is scaled to.
Happened to me too… Not sure if relevant, but I was timewalking WotLK content at the time, and my other friends were not. We did Random LK dungeons and they all dropped to lvl 30 as well… I was unaffected.
This just happened to me…And my friend who was level 49 stayed level 49. But I am level 41 and got turned to level 30. So frustrating
we noticed that if you don’t use chromie time, you get squished to match dungeon level. Turn on chromie time, and it will work fine.
Looks like they went the same route as FFXIV did. It really is a good way to balance things out when there is a wide range of levels. However it does feel pretty bad losing your abilities. It is something to get used to but I am for this. It worked well in FFXIV and I think it can work well for WoW.
Chromie doesn’t want to talk to me
Hey. I know this is an old post but I figured I’d give an answer. Since Bliz capped vanilla expac to only scale to level 30, if you fail to choose a timeline other than the standard BFA, when you level it will cap everything at whatever they would naturally end at. So if you queue for anything OTHER than BFA after you hit level 30, it will scale you down. Including your XP gained, bonus for instances, etc. Took a big hit to one of our crew after 3 instances of missed XP because of it. Just make sure you pick a timeline other than the standard BFA one and you’ll always have access to the full XP of an instance at your level, regardless of the xpac you’re actually running.
