Dungeon Deserter debuff for being kicked isn’t cool

I got kicked from a headless horseman group on this character. Two of the DPS had died, I rezzed one, and when the boss got down to 30% they kicked me. I was healing my butt off lol, but that’s fine, that’s not what’s annoying.

What is annoying is that I can’t requeue for another 30 minutes. That is ridiculous. I’ll come back and do it later, but what gives? I didn’t know it does this as I’ve never been kicked before.

Anyone know why blizzard decided on this?

This games entire group system has been antiquated since Wrath hit and other MMOs started using systems that actually made LFG/dungeon finders beneficial to players.

As for why they did it, it was the standard at the time they made it and they never bothered to improve it with the new ideas that have since been used by others.

I started playing wow s3 of shadowlands and haven’t been kicked once and yet seeing all these kicked threads makes me wonder, is it because I’m a panda with cool glasses?

It’s better than people holding groups hostage, continuously harassing people, etc. Which is what we saw back before the debuff was added.

Blame the toxic community for needing the debuff added.

Ohhhhh, I’m fairly new. How were people holding groups hostage? I am so curious now.

Sorry that happened, OP. That really sucks. :frowning:

Except you cant be kicked while in combat… so this means the group was a premade with a leader who removed you themselves, no vote kick needed.

Back in the day, we’d zone into a dungeon a tank or healer wouldn’t want to do. So they’d sit there and not move until the group kicked them so that they could get a dungeon they wanted. Others would harass someone and then when kicked, immediately requeue and either get the same group or another one to grief and harass. The debuff ensures no one can automatically requeue after bad behavior to continue it. And since the system doesn’t discriminate or know why people are kicked, everyone gets the debuff now.

Am I the only one who was confused at this point?

How many different flavors of awful did those DPS have to be to die to HH? Even with full curses, the amount of actual effort it takes to die from… well anything in that encounter is just mindboggling.

OP, this was definitely not a problem on your end. I’m in actual awe of the impressive amount of unfiltered concentrated bad that group had to be.

Anti-grief mechanic.

If a group decided to remove somebody for whatever reason it’s to prevent them from going straight into another group.

Well I don’t think its a true story because you can’t be kicked in combat.

I have found through experience to be careful with using absolute statements, because you may be proven wrong one day. I don’t know WoW rules, but I know I was in combat and healing during the Headless Horseman event, got him down to about 30%, and then suddenly was in Valdrakken. I had a message that I said something like “You have been removed from the group” in yellow. And then trade chat covered it all up.

Anyway, it’s not the point of the thread. I just wanted to know why Blizzard allowed the debuff when you’ve been kicked. I am satisfied with my answer from Sendryn, who was kind enough to take the time and explain.

…what? Kicked during combat? DPS who actually died during HH? What is happening here lol.

I wasn’t aware you can be kicked during a boss fight…

Was you the Healer or the Tank?

Healer, and I was definitely kicked. Could the rules be different for Headless Horseman specifically?

Mkay, and 2 DPS dies on what is an easy tank and spank fight.

Just to get this out of the way, because whenever a thread like this comes up people automatically assume it is OP’s fault that they got kicked, this was definitely not your fault. All of the damage on the horseman fight is avoidable, and most of it is even with all curses up. If you die on the horseman fight you are just bad. The DPS probably picked all curses, got hit by enough mechanics to get the stacking max health debuff high enough to make the next mechanic 1shot them, and then blamed you.

I think the solution for stuff like this is to make votekicking someone require the majority of the dungeon to -manually- right click your portrait and click the “votekick” button. People are sheep, and there aren’t really any other games where ONE PERSON can initiate a prompt to appear on -literally everyone in the group’s screen- all at once. Some people are just situationally unaware. I wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of the playerbase use the default dungeon UI. Most players literally have no way of knowing how they died. So, if someone votes to kick the healer, and it prompts everyone else to, they are probably just going to assume that the kicker has good reason to initiate the kick, and click it anyway.

It is just too easy to kick someone who did nothing wrong. I have always wondered what would happen if I just joined a random low level dungeon, voted to kick a random person and gave a made up reason. Like how many of those kicks would go through? Probably a lot.
