Dune Dominance - How Do The Spawns Work

TWW - 11/6/24 - I logged in and stayed parked at the location from 8am to 6pm st, during this time more and more people came and rares in the area were being killed consistently. In 10 hours not a single one spawned.

The belief that are tied to a timer seems to be wrong.
The belief they are tied to killing other rares seems to be wrong.
There is a belief that they are tied to the number of people in the zone, unsure on. Doesn’t seem true because there are more people in the zone currently than when I killed a few.
There is a belief that they are tied to the number of people online on the server, unsure on. I am currently logged in during non-peak hours so plausible.

What I would like, along with many others, is for Blizzard to simply say how it works or make an update to it since it’s a bunch of old world stuff now…

Updated - I was informed that 1 spawned around 7am server time, so if true the 1st one spawned at 7am st, the 2nd one spawned at roughly at 6pm st, not long after I logged off… Around 11 hours between spawns. During that time rares were being killed consistently and between 5 and 25 people we’re waiting.

An achievement based around wasting your free time just seems like terrible game design…

It’s wonderful game design, if the design objective is to maximize the time the player spends in the game. Which, unsurprisingly, is the case.

Player satisfaction is secondary.

I understand your point but I fully disagree. You want the player to actually play your game, not just be afk in it.

Satisfaction would definitely get a negative so now your game gets a lower rating.

Would it really be that ground breaking to provide some sort of information on how to spawn the rares, could even say “yeah you need to wait around for 24 to 72 hours and hope the right one spawns”.

Given they provide absolutely nothing is ridiculous. If this was a common design idea that they wanted to stick with I imagine the game would be long dead.

Should they just mail you his drops as well?

Just a bunch of useless trolls I see. Thanks for playing!

You’re complaining about game design based on a faulty premise, which I corrected.

You say that this bad game design will cause players to quit, which is hypothetically true, but it hasn’t made you quit, so immediate evidence is lacking.

My contention is that the developers tune the grindiness and reward factors to maximize “engagement” while tamping down player losses to an acceptable rate. It’s a min-max exercise, and the sweet spot for what the devs want is when as many players as possible hate every second they spend in the game, but they still spend as many as possible, juuuust short of the breaking point when they walk away. Wringing every engagement second out of players as possible.

If you want to critique the game on its design intents, you have to get those right first. Otherwise you’re talking about a fantasy which plays right into their objectives.

You’re certainly welcome to complain about a player-unfriendly design which is full of RNG and time-wasting, and perhaps the people calling the shots will see that as evidence they need to adjust the “engagement-enjoyment” balance a bit more back toward the “enjoyment” side. But it’s unhelpful to pretend the current design is an accident or somehow not in keeping with the design intentions of the game.

i farmed this back in july, i sat both on a dead server and then a populated server. on the dead server, i never ever saw it spawn, so i personally believe it is based on the zone’s playerbase/killing rares/etc. on the populated server, for me it was Stormrage (WM off), with the help of a friend phasing me , it spawned for me about every 2-3 hours. the issue for me was repeating rares, not so much the spawn time. i’m not sure how it is now or how many people farm it nowadays since when i did it, it was near the end of a season so people had extra time on their hands in the game. hope this helps!

WowHead has a “Today in Azeroth” tracker that can be set to show Shadowlands contents, including today’s “Notable Rares in Zereth Mortis”. Those rares are pretty much the only ones which will spawn today, so if the one you want isn’t on the list check back tomorrow.

Yes, the zone is designed such that not every rare is available every day.

Your welcome. Good luck raging about wow game design.

You’re right, my fault. It’s best to not provide any feedback or suggestions for something I hope improves and gets better.

I’m going to keep raging on though I suppose, since I’m just Mr. Rager (Kid Cudi)

<3 and Kisses to you Graveripper!

It’s such a frustrating design that outright disrespects a player’s time
