Dumb Thoughts : Madness, Moggery, and Weaponised Stupidity

So.

520 runs of 2nd half of the Dawn of the Infinite Dungeon later, 6 confirmed drops to other people and 42 Mirror of Fractured Tomorrow’s handed off to other player, Gorehowl, Might of the Warchief finally dropped for my Warrior.

I am unreasonably proud of getting this damn thing to drop for myself. And I’m finally getting off of Shaman as my main and getting back into the thick of the melee with a big sod-off weapon once more. But I’ve had a little bit to decompress and now I’m looking at the timeline I spent grinding for this damn thing.

3 months. That works out to be an average of 47 runs per week, averaging around 12 minutes per run, for a total of 9.4 hours per week in this Dungeon alone.

I feel exhausted just thinking about it. Both proud and ashamed that I tunnelled so hard for a transmog item that’s only really going to be useful to a single character. Now that I’ve got it, there’s a part of me that’s just yelling “BUT WHY?” into the Void as I stare at this army of alts that could all have been capped with the Anniversary XP Bonus Event that’s going on.

Does anyone else have this problem? And what was the White Whale that you became fixated on?

I’m currently trying to get a belt on a level 10 XP-off twink shaman and I must have run the dungeon for it a billion times. Just soloing it, even, because going in as a group takes too long and people are dumb.

The alt army left me as blank as you feel for the axe. At least 3 of every class at 70. Full roster of every class on MG, WrA and my OCE server.

I planned to leave MG and WrA as collections, static, not grinding to 80, just leaving them and focusing on OCE.

Three days later and we get our new log-in screen and Warbands. I can now mix them all up. The glass on the display case is shattered forever – and my insanity will continue.

Back in Legion I religiously ran new Karazhan as often as possible in order to get Midnight for Sarestha. Seemed fitting to have a big red high polygon skeletal horse for my ex Scarlet Death Knight.

Anyway after so many times spent organising groups to run the same damn mythic 0, I managed to get it my first time running it in BFA lol. I was pretty stoked.

But then for story reasons Sarestha sort of stopped wearing red altogether. So now I have a cool horse I don’t even use on any characters at all. All i have are memories of the grind. XD

I spent the majority of the last patch trying for Ashkandur until I got it, and all of Shadowlands running LFR Denathrius for his sword pet I only managed to acquire on literally the final week of SL. So yes, I understand your quest for Gorehowl, Gentarn.

Congratulations!

I feel your pain and will add mine.

Since I don’t run end-game content when it’s current, items that I really want are usually not on my “list of things to get” until about 2 expacs later, when I can (mostly) comfortably go in solo and try to get them.

I finally got Galleon’s Saddle earlier this year after over 1,000 attempts since MOP. MOP came out 12 years ago. That was a big item off my list.

Going along with my inability to run end-game content, I still have not managed to get past the Spine of Deathwing encounter, so I’ve never even attempted Madness. I will keep trying.

I have had many people offer to take me through Dragon Soul but I am not the type of person to like to be carried. I prefer to earn what I get, even if that means I can’t yet beat a boss from 13 years ago. I will beat them one day.

There are some items I want from BFA, but can’t beat the bosses yet. Same with Shadowlands. So, it will be a few years before I’m able to hunt for those. I am good with most bosses in Legion and dungeons in BFA, just not raids. I’ll get there eventually.

Spine is a pain, solo or not. The solo mechanic is to basically run left and right constantly, never stopping, making sure to stick close to the plate at all times. It’s miserable. If you ever want to do it together (as in, not a carry– although you can’t really carry that fight anyway with the barrel roll mechanics), feel free to give me a nudge. I’ve been putting it off for ages because it is extremely annoying to do so solo to the point I refuse to do it solo at all.

I was so fixated on getting Garrosh’s shoulders for my warrior that I level capped multiple plate wearing classes to run consecutive runs of Seige of Orgrimmar to get them. No really, on my account I have 2 Paladins, 1 DK, 2 Warriors. I’ve done with with multiple classes. First to RP and now to just have another roll at legacy armor sets for the week. I kid you not that I completed the mythic warlock set from Blackrock Foundry in one day because I had 3 warlocks to run it with.

Sweats in 4 warriors, 4 paladins, 2 death knights and maybe soon another paladin because I have a ‘free’ level 70 boost glaring into my soul

My OG white whale will always be Cursed Vision of Sargeras. When I saw people RPing demon hunters wayyy back in Cataclysm, I was star struck. I thought it was the coolest thing someone could have.

5 Hunters, 3 Paladins on WrA, 4 Paladins and 2 Hunters on MG. Then the rest of the crew. I swear, I have no idea how Hunters overtook Paladins in my WrA roster. It’s never been the norm. Either way, it’s 7 of each now.
