So something that I’ve been sitting on for a while as I did a bit of research is that the ores in the Dragon Isles have more to do with the inhabitants than the actual geological composition.
Severite? Know what this mineral most closely resembles?
And here’s the ore in its raw form
Severite isn’t a naturally occurring mineral, it is the weathered and eroded remains of Titan Watchers like Koranos.
Draconium seems to be fossilised Dragon Scales, infused with elemental properties from either the elemental powers of the Dragon (or Proto-Drake) that they once wielded, or absorbed from the surrounding environment during the fossilisation process. We already know Dragons are goldmines of alchemical, magical and elemental resources, imagine how potent those same scales, infused with metal, stone and magical energies for ten thousand years, would be?
Now, Khaz’gorite is interesting because it doesn’t seem to appear on its own, but is a rare find from Severite and Draconium nodes and seams. Interesting, this is named for the Titan Khaz’goroth, the Titan famous and revered for shaping and re-shaping whole worlds, taking the role of a smith and artificer rather than a warrior, parental figure or leader like most of the other Titanic Pantheon. He even granted a potent relic to the Titan Watchers of Azeroth to help them in their task of shaping and protecting Azeroth, the Pillar of Creation known as the Hammer of Khaz’goroth.
Khaz’gorite seems to be a rare metal found uniquely in the Dragon Isles, and thus seems to be the golden metal found on Titan Watchers like Koranos and his ilk, which is interesting since Khaz’goroth was the Titan who uplifted and empowered Deathwing, known as Neltharion in that era. Khaz’gorite might have defensive properties against Old God corruption, or given its colouration, it might be forged from trace amounts of Azerite and other Titanic materials, and given how vital that Tyr’s Hold, or Uldorus, which was a Titanic Facility intended to provide both the ability to infuse Order magic into the land to ‘Titanify’ the native life-forms, and also a defensive structure to protect the ‘Wellspring of Eternity’, a place where the life-blood of Azeroth ‘naturally comes to the surface’.
Uhm.
Naturally.
The Well of Eternity was made when the Titans ripped Y’Shaarj out of the planet and created an unnatural wound in the World Soul that threatened to kill it.
We’re missing a 5th Old God who is unnamed, and apparently disappeared without a trace.
Something corrupted Galakrond with Decay magic, which is a ‘dark’ or corrupted form of Azeroth’s natural Spirit Energy.
We find Old God-corrupted fish and entities in the underground caverns and the hidden research facility of Neltharion. We find a literal gateway, functional and everything after 10,000 years, in said Raid, including a pool of water filled with glaring Old God eyes, just before we show up to repeatedly introduce Sakareth to the soles of our shoes.
I’m beginning to think our time with Azerite and Old Gods is only just beginning.
