Dumb question? Zen meditation

Hey guys. I usually just bum around doing overworld content as BrM but i’d like to actually start tanking. The basics seem smooth but can you tell me…

WHEN is it appropriate to use Zen Meditation? Like give me a good situation for it. I almost never click it because melee destroys it, many boss spells come with a knockback to negate it. I can’t do anything while its on.

I’d like to make use of it more so please give me an example of dungeons it helps with!

Also why do I almost never seem to make healing spheres anymore? When I started at 110 I was poopin out spheres faster than I could use them like 5 at a time but now at max level im lucky if one shows up for expel harm use!

Perhaps I can help on both questions.

  1. Zen meditation has rare uses, it’s not a Cooldown you use on a rotation or when things are dire, it’s used when you know a massive hit is coming. If you know a boss or about to use something at a certain time like a phase transition and won’t be actively hitting you you use Zen meditation. Best example I can think of is something like zul in uldir. When the other tank takes the boss, you have a very painful debuff you have to drop off at the edge of the arena. Go there and use Zen until the debuff stops them get out immediately. Helps healers a lot.

If you’re looking for dungeon examples…

Let me see… I rarely use it in dungeons.

Tol Dogor - final bosses targeted shoot, you can take a second hit with Zen meditation without issues

Underrot - Third boss, can use it when he casts his aoe harvest

Waycrest - Can use it on the thorn boss when he uses his big hit, I can’t remember the name of the attack.

  1. Healing orbs spawn when you take a total of 100% of your hp in total damage. This is before stagger is taken into affect. So if your hp is 100,000 every 100k damage you take before mitigation nets you an orb. If you have 200k up, you need to take twice as much damage to get that orb. So the more health you have, the less orbs will spawn because you need them less.

Ah thankyou very much for the clarity Badger

Orbs are probably not spawning as much because the content you are doing isn’t hitting you that hard. You’ll see a big change in the number of orbs that spawn once mobs start hitting harder. Such as when you jump into raids.

I’m not too experienced with Brewmaster but I think you can also somehow dodge all of them, had a tank that was able to do that and soak all of them without taking a single point of damage I think he was somehow setting-up a guarantee dodge for that.

There is one shot he uses that targets a player and you can’t as a non tank, usually take the hit twice. So the tank can intercept the shot, and use Zen to not die of he already had a stack or two of the debuff. It’s not a great example, but Zen meditation doesn’t have a lot of great uses in a dungeon x.x

This is somethin I didnt know for a long time, but you actually shouldnt use Expel Harm unless you are low on health and desperate for healing. You should strafe around and pick up your spheres while tanking. The reason why is Expel Harm will over heal you, but walking over them will not. So if you have 80% health with 5 spheres you shouldn’t use Expel Hard because a lot of those spheres will be wasted. If you walk over them you will use 1 or 2, but still have 4 or 5 laying around for you to use in an emergency.

I used Zen Med for M Vectis Plague Bombs but in general it’s a super clunky ability with really weird caveats. I wish they’d change it.

Straying around to pick up orbs doesn’t work well for me. It’s like their hit radius is smaller than they are.

I didn’t know this. This is a big help for me. I’m currently leveling my Monk and was wondering how to get them to spawn, and why they really weren’t.

So they’re not spawning because I’m not really in a position to need one. Good to know.
