Dumb Question Mouseover Macro

Hi All

I am looking for ways to improve my HPS in raids - currently at 20 to 25K HPS in H BoD

I use ELVUI + Clique and have keybound all the heals that i use heavily in my rotation

my DUMB QUESTION is this: When I ‘mouseover’ a unit frame in Clique and use my keybound heals is that what a “mouseover macro” is? Or is it something that I need to look into that can vastly improve my HPS.

Thanks in advance for any guidance

Clique is not a mouseover macro, but it is mouseover functionality. When something is “mouseover”, it means you can hover your mouse over someone and click one button (either keyboard or mouse) to cast a spell on them, without changing your target. Without mouseover functionality, you would need to hit one button to select your target, then another to cast a spell on them (most people first started playing the game this way).

Macros are mini scripts you can write in game. There are all sorts of macros to do all sorts of things (to yell, cast a trinket, select a target, cast 2 spells at once, etc). A mouseover macro is one that makes it so you cast a spell on whoever your mouse is hovering over, instead of whoever your selected target is. Clique basically writes that script for you.

If you’re comfortable with Clique, I don’t think changing to macros would majorly improve your play, unless you’re having an issue with the way Clique functions that a macro could refine. Clique writes the same script every time, whereas if you write your own macro you can add more flexibility and functionality to it if you know how. But the major efficiency gain of mouseovers is hitting one button instead of two, so switching to macros would offer only minor gains instead of a vast improvement.

thank you that clears it up for me!

There is one major difference between Clique and mouseover macros:

Clique only works on unit frames.

A mouesover macro can be cast when you hover over a unit frame as well as a player/mob’s model and nameplate.

Having Life Grip on a mouseover macro means you can hover over the character flying off the cliff in Shrine without having to know which dps didn’t move out of the bosses way
