Dumb idea for Petbattles

I like collecting pets, seeing their stats and such. Pet battles though are pretty boring. It would be cool to try and use the Plunderstorm combat system for your pets when in a pet battle. So instead of the turn base snorefest you have 3 abilities of the pet (plus a catching ability) and try to knock the other pet out. Of course this means you control the pet andyou have a small arena to fight in.

You could even make the catching mechanic more fun - like some pets have a ability against flyers, ground, ghost ect.

Maybe pet battles are a dying game system but I would rather see a exploration of what could be done to make it more exciting/fun then throwing it away completely because no one plays it - where no one plays it because it stuck in a 15 year old system that’s rather boring. Being able to control the pet in the battle and using the abilities via the Plunderstorm system might be pretty fun and give a real break from delving all day or other activities.

No thank you, this isn’t pokemon.

That’s correct! This is WoW and it has had pet battles since MoP so I’m not sure what you are getting at.

They took away archaeology. Not because a feature is in game for a while that it’s gonna stay forever.
Battle pets are not engaging and is not a popular content either.

The other option that could keep things in motion would be to bring new pets every week into the Garrison and allow for the capture during a pet battle in the arena.

For you, right? Apparently, for some (maybe even many) it is.

By what metric?
Because, you definitely couldn’t be implying achievements.
Given the Reasoning for Killing Battle Pets, It’s Time to Kill Mythic Raiding

For many, many people. Not 1 person in my friends list and guild does that. Everyone even skips the weekly pet quest.

Your system sounds way too complicated. Can’t we just toss a box over it and be done with it? :slightly_smiling_face:

Well, many, many people play WoW. Many, many people do complete delves. Many, many people do not complete delves. Many, many do and do not do the same content.

That doesn’t seem to be a great sample size. Because, several people in my friend group actually levels characters via pet battles, and look forward to Pet Battle week.

So, again, what metric?

You just want to argue for the sake of it. Blizz mentioned it’s a content that is not popular.

This is objectively not true, because I am asking for your reasoning.

I just showed you it is has more activity than Mythic raiding.

So, again, by what metric?

It seems like you are just gleefully clapping that someone else may be losing a form of content that is important to them. Which is really sad, because I can’t imagine a good reason to have a chip on your shoulder toward any community in WoW, much less the Battle Pet community.

So, in your own words:

I understand this but personally I don’t want pets to go the way of achievements - meaning there is no reason to catch something other then having it. I am a fan of having a gameplay reason of getting something. Catch a pet because it’s better than something else, helps you catch something better ect.

I like the idea of pet battles but the current iteration is quite stale and boring. Updating it to be more engaging and fun might get more people to play it.

do you think blizzard is getting rid of battlepets because they are scared nintendo is going to come and sue em to oblivion ?

I’ve pet battled very few times in recent years, it’s always been something that I was going to do when there was a major lull. Gonna suck that when I finally get around to doing it, it’s going to be revamped. Likely the pet tokens will change as well. Been collecting them for years, so it makes sense that they would invalidate them.

Honestly, pet battles SHOULD remain stale. It’s OK to have something static and familiar in game. Move nothing and collect sentiment. A new twist on fast and break it.

If they’re gonna do away with pet battles, then they should at least give our pets some other form of utility. Perhaps make it so that we can access our banks or mailbox or something through them. Also stop them from repeatedly despawning on logins or zone loading etc.

there mistake was trying to balance it too much

this is my chill game in wow

if they want pvp out of it, give winning teams cooldowns

allow people to upgrade to epic

allow ppl to find legendary versions

remove caps

just let ppl have fun and collect wht they want

and give them a reason to keep hunting

The pet candle you can place on their head and cook is a nice start. :slightly_smiling_face:

They could add a craft table on four legged pets as well. Maybe have bears be able to hold anvils? Certain pets aid certain skills would be cool. Birds helping herbalist (tweet tweet - translated into Brann speak: Found a bit of gold!!).

More depth to the pets would be nice. Complete restructuring of the approach is not.
I mean they want engagement, give them utility for everyday uses. My pet bear cub should help me fish! A RARE cub would help me more, spread them out to collect each tier before you can advance if they need to gate it. So much can be done without ripping it apart.
