Dueling tournaments tier list (BETS)

Imagine there is a dueling touranment where everyone can spec exactly how they want. Spell batching exists. Imagine 30ms ping max. This is a 1v1 duel tourament for $1,000,000 first place winner takes all.

So which class/race/spec wins the tournament at all parameters listed below.

Level 45 in greens, Level 60 in greens, T0, T0.5, T1, T2, T2.5, T3, T3, Post naxx BiS + Legendaries, PvP sets

Horde vs Alliance

Races

With cooldowns vs without cooldowns. (I’ll leave it up to you to determine what is long enough to constitute. But generally I would say anything that is longer than 30 seconds.)

Played by AI neural network Laplace’s Demon or just some random, middle of the skill bell curve player.

Let’s start taking bets. To be clear, you pick a winner for each set tier above and you can feel free to specify which of the other parameters you’ve tweaked to what (i.e. Horde or Alliance)

In 1.12? Probably an arms warrior.

What consumables, gear, etc allowed or banned?

Free action potions, engi bombs, health pots, all the engi tricks, can heavily change the outcomes. I mean blacksmithing has a trinket that provided 30 seconds of fear immunity, for example. And even things like bandages can be a big deal for some classes.

That being said, soul link - affliction warlock in bis naxx gear (can clear 700 +shadow with trinket up) is probably going to relentlessly tool most everyone save a perfectly played hunter that’s given unlimited room to work and can kite in the 37-41 yard range while the lock has 36. Theoretically possible, but my money would still be on the lock overall.

No consumables. No bandages.

Crafted gear through professions is O.K. barring items trinkets and things that give you some advantage through active abilities. PvP trinket is acceptable.

Any sort of raid or PvP gear is allowed here as long as we can assume the enemy is equally geared. You can assume some hypothetical gear score range to be as close to the opponent as possible.

This means you can assume outlandish things like hunters having Thunderfury as long as the opponent has relatively equivalent gear score within a reasonable range…

Wait, so no trinkets or items that help you in pvp like reflectors? This is extremely important to clarify

The level 45 one is easy. It’s 100% BM hunter. Literally just pop Beastial Wrath and run away and you will kill literally every class no contest.

Level 60 in greens:
This one would largely depend on the level of player, but assuming everyone is at the same level I would say rogue. With every single cooldown available and everyone being such low health and rogues high base damage on abilities that a coldblood rogue will 100% destroy people with 2 crits of 5 stacked evis.

I’m not going to go through the WHOLE list of every tier but with a full pvp set, I am going to put my money on an SL lock. 2 void walker shields, healthstone, deathcoil, fears, and being super tanky I don’t see anyone beating them unless they are extremely skilled.

Check out this video, it takes this rogue an EXTREME amount of game knowledge, skill, and luck to beat this SL lock and he still almost lost.

Honestly, with the rock paper scissors nature of vanilla it’s probably going to come down to a lot of luck.

Warrior and rogue would probably be eliminated pretty quick. There are too many counters. A good mage will destroy a warrior and a good warrior will destroy a rogue.

Warlock would be high on my list. Specifically destro. Succubus seduce and fear not sharing DRs means you’re going to be able to keep your target CCd constantly while you lay into them with shadowbolts. Of course there’s the hard counter of an undead warrior eliminating your fear abilities for quite a while.

A feral/resto hybrid druid would be high on my list as well simply because they don’t really have any super hard counters and they’re pretty darn hard to kill.

Shadow priest and mage might make it far also.

Every class same tier.

They shared DR for most of vanilla iirc. That was nerfed, I believe, even before negative resistances potentially doubling damage.

Another one with bringing up is eating /drinking… You see in a bunch of rogue videos that they’ll kite out to restealth and reset, usually waiting on DRs to reset before re-engaging… In this scenario the opponent typically eats /drinks to full.

Ming’s 1.10 (might have been 1.11) test server duel video is a great example during the rogues vs Ret named Deviate portions.

Imo the fairest set of rules I found is the ones from that video :

-Best of 5
-no engi gadgets/bombs or trinkets
-no pots
-no smithing trinket
-full cd reset between fights
-food/water and bandages allowed
-double stealth roll and then alternate openers

Unsure where tidal charm would sit for legality, people just didn’t know about it back then.

Soul link warlock or maybe hunter wins the tournament.

Did they? Well still, warlock is a pretty solid 1v1 class. Felhunter would be a better option if they share DRs
