Dueling enemy faction inconsistency

before, in vanilla wow, from what i remember you were able to duel the enemy faction (on pve servers at least), i remember because a lot of the time people would flag themselves, duel someone, and then see if they could try to get the person to missclick by forfeiting in the middle or at the end of the duel and attacking them on accident and flag themselevs, i hope blizzard will consider reimplimenting it because it was a good way to interact with the enemy faction on a PVE realm and a part of the original vanilla

i would also like to indicate with that something more important, the censorship of blitzchung, what blizzard did was very wrong and i can’t support them

Just came here looking for an answer to this, seems to not be a very hot topic.

yeah i don’t know why it didn’t get any posts, thanks for the bump

So you’re asking Blizzard to allow you to trick players into PvP flagging so that you can kill people who clearly have no interest PvPing at that moment - a tactic, btw, that was generally used by high lvl players to force low lvls to flag so they could camp them. And you’re actually trying to pass this off as a “good way” to interact with other people?

kids gotta get their jollies somehow.

  1. yes i am

  2. i’m asking for it because that’s simply how it was in the original vanilla, not because of reason 1), there are times when it was used for honest duels between people of the separate factions, i simply brought that part up because that’s what triggered me remembering duels were allowed between opposite factions

Dueling across factions was possible all the way from beta through patch 1.2.2 when it was removed. Patch 1.2.3 added it back. Seems reasonable to have.

Go to Gurubashi arena and duel anyone you like.

“Go to the Arena” doesn’t solve the inability to have a duel while out in the world with the opposing faction. It doesn’t have to be someone trying to be scummy and flagging mid duel. If I run across a member of the opposing faction and wanted to duel, well, I can’t (thus making them little better than NPCs) - the classic crowd was pretty adamant about no changes, and I thought this one would be a bigger issue than it seems to be.

You can duel the opposing faction on PvP servers, just not in contested areas. You’ll have to be in either an Alliance or Horde zone and then one of you needs to target the other and type /duel.

I don’t remember if the Horde has to initiate it if it’s a horde zone and vice-versa, or if it’s the other way around.

There was a time that worg pup attacked for you. It was worthless. But what was funny was that your worg pup would be flagged. If you took it into starting areas as a rogue. You could trick people into attack it and getting them flagged.

I used to troll hard with it. I wonder if the current version of classic has worg pups like that? Hrm

Why not just go on a PvP Server if all you want to do is to kill low level players?

but what’s the point of that if you’re already on a pvp server in a contested area and you can fight each other regularly anyways? i’m just talking about being able to duel other people on the enemy faction just like in vanilla

i’m already playing on a pvp server, and not all i want to do is kill low level players, i’m merely indicating that being able to duel players of the enemy faction was in the original vanilla but it’s not in classic, the trick where people would get people flagged through dueling isn’t the sole reason that i want it back, it’s just what triggered me remembering it was in the original game but didn’t get readded

well there is the hunter ability that would let you control beasts which got removed from the game, you would tame a beast, make it walk back and forth for to look like a regular mob, then out of nowhere the real hunter came and shot you after you attacked it, there’s also the explosive sheep which to a lot of people would look like a regular sheep/critter, people would attack it and get blown up out of no where

Me and my friends rolled on a pve server back in 2006 and we use duels as a way to try and get alliance to flag themselves so we could kill them. One guy was a mage and he would drop a duel flag at an alliance player, me and other friend were both rogues so we would stealth around near the battle hoping for the alliance player to hit us with an aoe ability and flag them for pvp. Then we could camp them until they called for help or logged off. THEN we would highfive eachother and laugh deep into the night.

…and THEN once blizz opened up paid character transfers we all moved to a pvp server where we belonged and lived happily ever after.

that also reminds me, did they take out aoe abilities attacking flagged targets? i remember that specifically from the old days, i would be aoeing something normally then hit someone on accident to get myself flagged + get killed, they might’ve taken it out but i haven’t got the chance to test it
