I really don’t understand what kind of a person would be upset by this. Why do you feel like you need all of them? They let you pick a favorite color. There you go. Back in vanilla we didn’t even have a barber shop.

What’s also nonsensical is it taking 6 years on the SAME character to complete the collection. Said collection being minor duck costumes, not some major museum defining legacy.

I’m pretty disappointed in this and the Noblegarden mount as well. I would like Blizzard to take another look at their approach to collectables, especially going into the next expansion.
If you enjoy collecting, these new duck appearances somehow have the longest turnaround of any collectable in the game. These slightly reskinned duck colors is such a minor cosmetic, so the ability to collect them should have a similarly minor hurdle. The novelty of it taking 6 years to collect them is so disproportionate everyone assumed it was a bug they weren’t account wide. This isn’t a, “I’m angry I don’t get all the duck colors right now,” opinion, but a, “this is just a poorly designed collectable and I’m incredulous.”
How do you make a toy like this interesting?
- When you find the golden egg at the nest during the questline you’re transformed into a random duck skin and you’re stuck like that.
- The NPC hears you quacking nonsensically and helps transfer this duck curse (or whatever) to the golden egg.
- She gives you the egg as a toy since the thing is cursed.
- For the remainder of the year you are turned into the duck skin you were randomly given when you place and touch the egg.
- The following year you can do the questline again and get a different duck skin for the remainder of the year.
- Now, you and your friends have little duck types who could be wearing different cosmetics (like Aura from the trading post) and have little duck battles during break in raid, or whatever.
It’s already upsetting they added yet another 1% mount that collectors such as I need to hop on alt after alt after alt all week to hope we get it. Time gating is not a fun or interesting mechanic when that is the main driving force behind what makes a collectable novel. It turns an event I would like to enjoy into something I am alt-swapping for 2 hours a day for a week to still have a decent chance of not getting the item. I just feel bad, because I can’t just take my time and slowly chisel at it. The duck toy skins timeline is, at the end of the day and above all else, not interesting or fun.

Because it’s an example of lazy game design. Every time Blizzard makes an out-of-touch, outdated design choice like this, we get people like you coming in, “Why do you caaareeee?” We get it. You’re okay with piss-poor quality. We’re not.

I am ambivalent to this. Its not the first multi-event item. And hey, we still get to turn into a duck, right? Pick a color that fits your tmogs and such.

Like spending 250 chocolate on a hearthstone where you’re literally just staring at a feckin’ egg in your hand ._. Glad I just wasted like 30 minutes of my life for that… woo…

This must be a HUGE oversight, because it means if I make any character post event, the toy will be unusable until I do the next Noblegarden?

The duck pet was worth my time, at least. Not sure if I want to bother with the 2 other items I need though.

Well, that’s a bit excessive.
I think if you get the toy, at least 1 color should be available to any toon on your account.
Why make this a learnable toy if you can’t even use it on a toon that hasn’t done the quest?
Let us learn colors account wide on different characters, please. Seems really weird to time-lock a fun toy behind 6 years.
