I see a lot of streamers are dual wield tanking now instead of using sword and board. Is this something that is required to hold threat properly or are they just trying to crank out a bit more dps and make their streams more entertaining?
I imagine it 100% depends on how capable/geared your healers are. I doubt it will work as well in the later raids until tanks start to outgear the raid.
you will 100% get ruined trying that on certain bosses later on
Warrior TPS is limited because their modifiers are almost entirely static values that don’t scale with anything at all. So the only real way to pump up TPS on a Warrior is to get a lot more Rage so you can keep yourself GCD locked while dumping excess Rage into Heroic Strike… after which you only have damage to up it even further. Dual-wield allows a Tank to get hit harder (more Rage) and gives them extra attacks (more Rage and Threat from damage).
If you look through some of the ranking parses on Warcraft Logs you’ll find “Tank” Warriors rocking gear almost identical to the Fury Warriors in the raid, including things like Truestrike Shoulders (which are Leather and have no Stamina), to up this even more.
Contrast that with Druid Tanking and things look very different. Druids get big fat scaling modifiers on Maul and Swipe and have significantly improved baseline Rage generation compared to Warrior, while also having basically nothing else to spend it on. A Warrior needs to be judicious with Rage to ensure Shield Block and Revenge and Shield Slam are usable when the CD comes up… a Druid just mashes Maul more because we’re still waiting on GCD for Swipe to be used again. Also, for a Druid to “downgrade” to something like Truestrike Shoulders, we only take a hit in Health and somewhat in Armor, but not nearly as much as a Warrior.
So expect to see interesting use of Druids as we scale upwards in difficult content that won’t allow a Warrior to get away with Leather/Mail gear for very long. With how hard DPS are going now that people know what gear to go for and what specs to use and rotations, etc, Raiding going forward is going to be interesting indeed.
No. Just to do more DPS.
But man, I’d love it if I could get one warrior in my groups to actually use a shield sometimes. I love your DPS and you love my healing and windfury but I don’t love being OOM every single pull because your health is being chunked.
Also, we’re running a melee cleave and you’re not sundering. Please sunder.

Warriors have trouble maintaining agro as we all know well this is why people now are trying to pump out damage to keep the threat on the warrior. It’s a risky play style that requires many things to succeed such as geared healers and dps that are capable of nuking the boss before the healer runs out of mana trying to keep the fury alive. So it’s all a numbers game if you can’t zerg fast enough it’s a bad strat if you have the means you reap the rewards
If you arent running a dungeon where the mobs are orange to you, and your healer isnt in terrible gear, then the run goes much faster without any real extra risk.
Tell me, how does a retail DK know anything about Classic druids?
My profile isn’t exactly hidden…
Unless you think I got Server First Druid in Wrath/Cata on a… Death… Knight…
Dude’s mad cause you’re spitting facts and he has no response lul
