It’s announced that dual talent spec is coming in phase 3. Costs 50 gold requires level 40. Of course this is another gold sink, and it just seems “boring”. But also, I don’t want to spend that much gold. I think Blizz can be more engaging in getting dual spec. Rather than flat out spending gold, how about incorporate the “rune discovering” aspect into unlocking dual spec? What I mean is that for an “X” amount of runes discovered, you unlock dual spec without any fee. I think this way is more engaging. It encourages the player to attain the runes they skipped either it was weak or not worth it. Of course, if they were to do this, I wouldn’t want them to remove the option to buy dual spec for gold. But instead to just keep both options in-game.
On another note… just one dual spec? How about one more for the dps/tank/heal classes like paladins? Why not multi spec? With so many runes, so many builds, I think having more dual specs would work well here.
That seems like a very reasonable idea that would have utility, and be fun. But at the same time, I suppose some people might see it as gatekeepy, since they could just drop some gold rather than go get their runes.
I have all runes on all the characters that I play at max level, so it wouldn’t matter for me personally either way. I don’t mind the 50g fee. I wouldn’t mind if it was 1000g either though. So…
We pretty much already have this right now since respecc’ing caps out at 1g. Or do you mean like being able to respec out of combat like you can with runes, and also have the ability to just save as many templates as you’d like?
Not something I would advocate for personally, but for a season of WoW Classic, I’d be down to try.
Dual spec is a basic QoL feature. The purpose of dual spec is to reduce the friction of re-specing that prevents players from enjoying the game. It shouldn’t be a gold-sink. Some people don’t play SoD a ton or don’t farm gold/quest at the current max level for gold. Some have a lot of alts.
Dual spec is more valuable to the mode if it’s cheap or free. In fact, the modern WoW 10 profile free respec system is even better because it allows you to explore specs and save several variations for various purposes.
When people get bored of a spec or want to try a different variation for a different activity, the re-spec system discourages them from even bothering. There should be zero-friction here if you want to maximize how much exploration and discovery there is in this mode. People would play the game more without that barrier.
This lesson was learned by Blizzard when they reduced the cost of dual-spec from 1,000g to 10g in Cataclysm. The Dragonflight respec system I think was a major success and how dual spec would have ended up sooner if that talent system hadn’t been replaced entirely in MoP.
Couldn’t you say the same thing about epic mounts at 60? Why should they cost 900 (or more likely 450) gold when they are a basic QoL feature. Going at 100% bonus speed increases quality of life way more than going at only 60% bonus speed.
What do you think SHOULD qualify to be a gold sink?
Also, in SoD, 50g isn’t that much. You can get 50g by completing 15-20 quests at level 40. And by the time you would’ve completed those 15-20 quests, you’d probably have earned 50g or more just in randomly looted grey vendor trash or whites/greens to sell on the AH.
just make your own game, it should be as easy as you make it seem right?
Better yet, all you forum Aristotles should all get together and just make a perfect game, then you wouldn’t have to come to the forums and piss and moan, cry, whine, snot, b****, and complain about every single thing that goes into sod. Problem solved.
