Dual Spec Middle Ground

So since everyone and their dog seems to have a pretty big opinion on this, I got to thinking “what would be a good compromise position.” I came up with this:

  1. Have several stored specs at the trainer. This is not dual spec. This is straight up just having the spec stored so you can select it when you are at the trainer and have it applied without having to click through each time and potentially make a mistake while doing so.
  2. Cap respecs at 20g each respec. You choose one of your stored respecs, that costs 20g. Choose another one? That’s another 20g.

This offers the general convenience I am looking for with dual spec while also keeping the general “it needs to cost something” that seems to be the most common consensus issue with dual spec. It also requires a trainer to allow you to respec which saves a ton of time from a coding perspective.

I am sure this will get flamed like every other post like this and I am guessing this isn’t even an original approach. But hey, gotta move the ball in a different direction because to be quite honest, all the other posts on this topic are getting boring.

This is fine.

This isn’t. Respeccing is supposed to be a gold spec. It isn’t supposed to be convenient.

A good compromise for pvp players is to have a normal spec out in the world and dungeons ect. When you enter arena/bg you spec changes or you select to change it to your “pvp” spec. Otherwise your main spec out in the world you still have to go to a trainer and respec. Your alternate pvp spec costs nothing to change and configure, but obviously can only be done outside of bgs/arena.

I can respec 50 times in a week and not even notice I lost gold. The gold is meaningless.

Disagree with you there. There is a reason Blizzard decided dual spec should be so cheap in WotLK. That reason is that players want to respec and having a high value associated with multiple respecs eventually costs subs.

Except it isn’t really a gold sink, as people just choose to not respec most of the time

If it’s already meaningless, why bother reducing it further?

Keyword, in WotLK. We’re still in BC.

What’s your point? You are acting like the design philosophy is so different between the two. If anything, TBC is waaaaaaay closer design wise to WotLK than it is to Vanilla.

good to see we’ve reached the bargaining stage of grief, only one more to go before acceptance!

I never said I agree with reducing it further, but the idea that respecc’ing needs a punishment and thus gold serves as that punishment is absurd.

Now is probably the hardest time to make gold, bots are rampant and everyone wants a slice of the gold farming pie. In time it’ll get easier, again, and we’ll have more daily quests generating literal raw gold into the economy at an unprecedented rate.

Saying that a small fee of 50g is a punishment is pathetic and is just a dated boomer idea dating back to a time when “everyone was broke” and epic flying was some coveted Jeff Bezos status.

Nah. This was mostly just boredom with all the other Dual Spec posts…both for and against.

Honestly, I wouldn’t even care if the addon “talented” worked the way I want. Better step would be native in game storage

Then why didn’t they just skip TBC and give us Wotlk from the start? They would have got more subs.

Why even have a distinction between any expansion of WoW? They are all the same, right? Let just have vanilla retail, and tbc retail, and wotlk retail…

Oh wait! We already do! You can pick the expansion you want to play in and do it! Right now in retail.

I like that stored spec idea, you should get a cookie

I’m not the OP.

Which op you reading?

You #nochanges clowns are great.

Cringe boomer is cringe. If you played retail then you know you can only adjust scaling to level in those zones, nothing else is the same.

10,000g to unlock dual spec.

That is the middle ground.

Easy, I can buy it right now. Double it and I can still buy it right now without a second thought.

I smell something weird since you walked in, smells like broke in here.

Every mage could have a boosting spec and a normal spec

That would totally fix the game!

Obviously the 100 gold swap isn’t a problem for you. So what is it? The inconvenience of going to your trainer and clicking buttons?

Retail allows you to skip that annoyance and change spec wherever! Try it out. Or is that something we need in classic tbc too?

Just shut down classic tbc so people don’t have to suffer through a worse game. I hope that happens. I really do. Then people can enjoy WoW again.

You could say he… Fayld hehehe
