So since everyone and their dog seems to have a pretty big opinion on this, I got to thinking “what would be a good compromise position.” I came up with this:
Have several stored specs at the trainer. This is not dual spec. This is straight up just having the spec stored so you can select it when you are at the trainer and have it applied without having to click through each time and potentially make a mistake while doing so.
Cap respecs at 20g each respec. You choose one of your stored respecs, that costs 20g. Choose another one? That’s another 20g.
This offers the general convenience I am looking for with dual spec while also keeping the general “it needs to cost something” that seems to be the most common consensus issue with dual spec. It also requires a trainer to allow you to respec which saves a ton of time from a coding perspective.
I am sure this will get flamed like every other post like this and I am guessing this isn’t even an original approach. But hey, gotta move the ball in a different direction because to be quite honest, all the other posts on this topic are getting boring.
A good compromise for pvp players is to have a normal spec out in the world and dungeons ect. When you enter arena/bg you spec changes or you select to change it to your “pvp” spec. Otherwise your main spec out in the world you still have to go to a trainer and respec. Your alternate pvp spec costs nothing to change and configure, but obviously can only be done outside of bgs/arena.
Disagree with you there. There is a reason Blizzard decided dual spec should be so cheap in WotLK. That reason is that players want to respec and having a high value associated with multiple respecs eventually costs subs.
What’s your point? You are acting like the design philosophy is so different between the two. If anything, TBC is waaaaaaay closer design wise to WotLK than it is to Vanilla.
I never said I agree with reducing it further, but the idea that respecc’ing needs a punishment and thus gold serves as that punishment is absurd.
Now is probably the hardest time to make gold, bots are rampant and everyone wants a slice of the gold farming pie. In time it’ll get easier, again, and we’ll have more daily quests generating literal raw gold into the economy at an unprecedented rate.
Saying that a small fee of 50g is a punishment is pathetic and is just a dated boomer idea dating back to a time when “everyone was broke” and epic flying was some coveted Jeff Bezos status.
Then why didn’t they just skip TBC and give us Wotlk from the start? They would have got more subs.
Why even have a distinction between any expansion of WoW? They are all the same, right? Let just have vanilla retail, and tbc retail, and wotlk retail…
Oh wait! We already do! You can pick the expansion you want to play in and do it! Right now in retail.
