Edit to clarify: The reason this is being brought up as an idea for Druids is to help out those who are disabled. Druids are capable of carrying a person. This is the same mini game everyone would have to do, but at least Druids could help to carry around those friends who are disabled and need help. There are no two person dragons for this mini game and this is an easier solution that doesn’t delete a button for a class.
Druids don’t get to use one of their iconic abilities in the new expansion. So let them learn to turn into a dragon while on the Isles only, using the same mini game everyone has to do, so that they can carry people.
People may need to help friends out while in the Isles. Someone mentioned a good point and I forgot one of the reasons I will carry some friends around: they have disabilities and don’t do well with three dimensional space while flying. So let us have the ability to learn to carry another person on that dragon.
I would also like to add that I believe once we learn to master the art of dragon riding, we’ve gained the complete trust of the dragons and have mastered the winds and gravity of the Isles. Which means we should be able to unlock using our own mounts at the slower speed they are once we max out this new mini game.
It’d also be cool if you could turn into a dragon feral/guardian form that’s maybe just a bit bigger than the normal feral cat. I wish that’d have been a standard option for a playable dragon race too. Visage form, drakonid form, small combat dragon form, regular mount size true form.
Since it’s clear they are taking inspiration from GW2 (that preview basically looked like they smushed the Skyscale and the Griffon), it is my hope that they steal how the mounts work too. In which case, it’s less a mini game and more added features on top of mounts.
Take the Griffon, for instance. At base it can still glide plenty fast. It’s not gimped, and is absolutely usable. The upgrades unlock the ability to dive to gain additional speed, or climb to get back to the altitude you were before you dove. This entire time you’re pressing a button every few seconds (whatever you bound it to) to flap your wings to stay in the air and regain some of the altitude you lost. It lets you feel like you’re actually flying rather than the mounts in other games, which just feel like a speed boost with a pretty animation. Though the Griffon at its core is more of a long range glider than a true flyer. Which is probably why they smushed the Skyscale in there too.
Anyway, my point is that the mount system in GW2 is one of the most fun things I have seen in MMOs, and if the dev team can bring it here I welcome it. My only fear is that they will find a way to Blizz it up.
Yeah one comparison I saw was saying like spiderman slinging across the city.
The PS4 game did that very well.
Horses in Red Dead 2/Online have stuff you can do to get more stamina and such and I’ve enjoyed that as well. I’m looking forward to trying out this version of flying.
It’s funny going from Skyrim horses to Red dead horses, I’m hoping Bethesda takes some inspiration from the Red Dead 2 versions. Very well done.
Maybe we can even pet and give our mounts snacks haha
Druids got hit on too hard in SL so they got brain damage and totally forgot how to fly… good job Blizz.
If you are forced to land after a certain distance/time, and it forces you to land in the middle of a bunch o big giant baddies… that is going to be fun… l forsee lots o runs from the graveyards.
I will be real in saying that I don’t think Druids need anything else special. Them and Hunters get cool new flavor things all the time; what about the rest of us?
