Druid worth pursuing currently?

I am leveling a Druid, but I’m seeing a lot of Druids on the server i’m playing (Azuresong). My concern is will I have an issue grouping up towards the endgame and also I’ve read a lot that druids get cast aside for other classes in the later game. Is this something I should be concerned with? I don’t have a lot of time to play, so I just don’t want to sink in a bunch of time into a character if it’s not wanted later. Thanks in advance.

I don’t know what the hardcore min/max guilds are doing, but most guilds will welcome Druids. We don’t have any because night elves aren’t allowed in our guild, but all the Druids I know have no problem finding raid groups and I know Druids that tank, DPS and heal in raids, so you’re picking a versatile class.

Not worth it for tank or cat DPS, not a sought after healer either.

Best play would be to get one to 60 for TBC and shelve it.

You don’t know what you’re talking aboutz feral is 3rd best dps right now with a battle rez. Geard bears have amazing hp, armor and threat

Yeah with 5x the effort required ferala are great.

You don’t play feral to be a mouth breathing, facerolling l33t dps. You play it for the challenge and the fun of being a druid.

It’s not that hard… I’m still wearing half blues and all I do is shred spam and ferocious bite and powershift. Farming pumellers is a little annoying but doesn’t take that much time months big scheme of things.

Looks like about a 9% druid population Horde side on Azuresong. That’s higher than my realm but still looks like the least played class. You may have a little more trouble finding a raiding guild but I wouldn’t let that be the thing that dissuades you from playing druid.

Typically guilds try and run only 1 or 2 druids in a 40 man raid. And if there’s 2 it’s usually one resto and one feral for tanking. Cat DPS does have potential but you need to farm 15+ MCPs a week and with the stupid 30 instance limit that may be a bit of an issue if you try and do all your MCP farming in 2 days.

My guild has 3 ferals with a 35min bwl clear

Resto is a solid healer.

Balance is one of the lowest DPS specs in the game (at least as far as BWL).

Feral is a decent DPS spec, albeit with a caveat. You have to farm a LOT of Gnomeregan. Like, a ton. You need to get manual crowd pummelers as they’re the best weapon for feral druids in the game. Feral is great DPS if you do that and use the charges very liberally. You could play feral without the MCP farming, as there are alternatives, just your damage will slip by several tiers. Still higher than balance, ret, enhancement, and a few others. If that doesn’t bother you then go for it!

Tank is also a very decent spec. There is still manual crowd pummeler farming if you want to put fourth the effort to be REALLY good but not as much as feral DPS needs them. It’s more used for burst threat and then you can put on another weapon, maybe once per boss or so. That’s still a decent chunk of Gnomeregan farming.

Yeah honestly the biggest deterrent for me when it comes to druid is the MCP farming.

Druid however is one of the strongest classes in TBC, so if you want to level one with the future in mind that’s not a bad option. Like paladin and shaman, leveling druid can be fun because of the variety of things you can do in parties while leveling up. Max level’s a whole different thing, though.

i think feral is viable IF you farm a ton of MCP’s idk about boomkin but i mean i don’t see why nobody would want a druid tbh. innervate, brez. i don’t really see many around in the game to begin with. still going to be wanted in pvp no matter what as well.

imo play w.e. you want and just be good at it. always room for a druid somewhere

this was also a thing i read about. I don’t want to have to farm for a MCP just to be viable. I like the class though, many forms is fun.

Everyone loves Druids. People will think you’re a meme spec but you’ll wreck them on the meters and shake it off. MCP is only necessary for min/maxing on tank-and-spank encounters… and is largely unnecessary once you snag a +Feral AP hammer.

This whole idea you need a “ton” of MCPs is amusing. It comes down to the guild you’re in. I tank and DPS. Last night in BWL I tanked on Razorgore and Ebnroc. I grabbed adds on Nefarian in dps gear. For Razorgore topping the dps charts does not matter. I don’t use an MCP and still outthreat everyone even my fellow tanks. Why? I grab world buffs in a guild that they aren’t required by the raid leader. On Vael I was #3 on dps behind two rogues and then I helped tank trash. One MCP each was used on the following bosses: Vael, Broodlord, Firemaw, Flamegore, Chromag, and Nefarian. So I used a total of six there. Guild wanted to do Onyxia, but the two warrior tanks had to take off. So I main tanked Ony and used 1 and half MCPs as it’s nice to have a quick threat pickup on Ony.

I’ll use probably 7-8 for our MC night. I mostly due that for fun and to give the dps a little breathing room when I’m the first tank, but on fights like Lucifron and Sulfuron Harbinger I tank an add and then dps the boss. So that’s 14-16 MCPs for the week. With the instance limit change I can’t do my old two day Gnomer farm on the weekends unless drops are good. I can get away without using MCPs in MC if I want to and have done so. I could get my MCP usage down to 7-8 if I wanted, but I like pushing it. Personal preference. And that preference sets how daunting the MCP grinding feels to you. I am nearly at 850 Crowd Pummeler kills per DBM. I know druids with many more. It’s down to your role and how much your guild expects.

Find a guild that fits your personality, playstyle, in-game goals, etc. Resto is great and will almost always have a raid spot in any raid. Balance is a bit harder as the top guilds will probably roll eyes, but many casual guilds have one. It’s the most niche of the three specs. As a feral if you want to have the best chance to get a raid spot get both dps and tank gear. Feral tank and dps gear aren’t exactly the same. Normally you like a bit higher armor and stam on tank pieces while on your dps you’ll sacrifice some stam/armor for more DPS stats. However, the current content isn’t hard to tank. Nothing hits incredibly hard. I tank MC in DPS gear outside of Rag with fire resistance. I tank Ony in high threat gear. BWL depends on the fight. I go slightly higher threat and less mitigation on Razorgore, but on Ebonroc I go high armor/stam and hit capped. As I said earlier I wear full dps set with MCP on Nefarian trash. It’s fun!!!

Play what you want. Find a guild that aligns with your ideals and be happy. If you like playing a druid…PLAY A DRUID!

IF your guild can get world boss kill you can get a Feral AP hammer, but if not you’re waiting for AQ20/40 for either Mace of Unending Life or Blessed Qiraji War Hammer. AQ is feral loot heaven!

I’m the token Balance Druid in our semi-casual guild’s primary MC/BWL weekly raiding group & yes we are a joke spec in Vanilla WoW Classic. I was Restoration spec (which is also pretty sad raiding compared to Priests & Paladins), but respec’d to create more diversity in our raid group with the people we had available. Leather gear itemization past the Dungeon level also totally blows (as in non-existent) for Balance spec, & our tier sets are just for offspec healing or to wear until we can find suitable non-tier dps cloth (while in competition for it with a zillion mages & warlocks). Bloodvine 3-piece (w/300 tailoring bonus) set FTW I guess. Fun fun. TBC Classic will be a different story, however.

Do you enjoy playing druid? If so then play druid. You can find a guild for any spec btw -though some may be easier than others.

It all depends on how you’re going to play at endgame. If you want to go really hardcore, you might not want to play Druid if you don’t wanna farm MCP. If you plan on being more casual, just pick what’s fun.

Do we even know when TBC is going to drop? Seems like a long time from now

What matters the most is to play a class you enjoy playing. Don’t worry so much about which classes are popular, there’s a spot for every single class in endgame content.

For druid specifically, you’ll be most successful at endgame if you embrace the hybrid nature of the class and keep an open mind about filling a tanking, healing, or DPS role. Every guild and raid team has different needs that change over time, so you’re most likely to find a raid spot if you’re open to any of the roles your class can perform rather than insisting on a single role. For example, I leveled this druid early in Classic fully expecting to heal at endgame, but the first guild I joined was overfull on healers so I geared as feral instead and have stuck with it ever since. Even within feral, I started as primarily a DPS role but have evolved into a Tank 2 position where I maintank some bosses, offtank others, and DPS the rest. Being open to flexible role swapping like this is key to enjoying druid both while leveling and at the endgame.

As an aside, druid is perhaps the easiest class to gear up right when you hit 60. Getting groups for dungeons is a joke in HotW/NS spec since you can flex easily between the two most sought after roles in 5-man groups. You’ll want to specialize once you find a raid team though.
