Druid - Warden Build

Hey Druids.

I’m having a ton of fun with an off-meta build in SoD. I think of it as a staff/mace wielding warden. It takes Survival of the Fittest, Starsurge, and Wild Growth. For talents I take imp Nature’s Grasp, Omen of Clarity, Imp Thorns, and Nature’s Reach.

The key to the playstyle is lining up instant spell casts with staff swings ie Starsurge, Moonfire, Wild Growth. The staff swings eek out a good bit of extra damage and has a chance to proc Clearcasting (which I mostly spend on Wild Growth). A swing timer is super helpful this since every instant druid spell resets the swing timer except insect swarm. I use a weak aura for this. I also love that I don’t have to deal with pushback from casting wrath while leveling/pvping. For stats I look for spell damage, stam, int, mp5, and strength. Haven’t really decided on a priority yet.

Let me know what you think of the build. I’d be happy to go into more detail. The build is great for leveling (0 downtime), 1v1 pvp, group pvp, and as a second healer in BFD. Peace.

Do you see this type of playstyle having a life outside of P1?

Seems legit

I’m looking at going 31/13/7 to have a full boom/feral format at 60. I am hoping with the new Runes they add they compliment more of Malfurions aspects especially with nature spells like Treants, a mass root, and his hybrid druid/elf form. (would be dope)

I think that talent tree is the typical for most pvp druids but we’ll see what the Runes are going forward and how they compliment the talents.

If you take this into BFD and are noticed, you are likely to just be kicked.
you could probably get away with being a healer as long as you’re carried by a stronger main healer, such as a priest, purely because wild growth is very strong and every other druid healing spell sucks.

Sounds fun, always good to see someone thinking outside the box.

And there’s that dreaded box already.
OP is talking about leveling/pvp…

The post literally includes ‘and as a second healer in BFD’

Great question. It really depends what the runes are in the next phase and if Starsurge/Wild Growth stay as strong as they are right now. I would love to see blizz add a rune to make instant spells behave more like insect swarm/ pali abilities and not reset the swing timer. A caster form melee ability would also be sick.

Disregards two entire paragraphs and zergs it down over the last few words. Yep.
Could you just…not.

Let him have his fun.

have all the fun you want in solo play, go ahead, its SoD.
i said, if you take this into a BFD, a raid where your ‘fun’ impacts 9 other people, then you are probably going to get kicked. it’s a friendly warning.

Yes we are all well aware what the meta sheep have to say. bUt MuH pArSe!
Last I understood, 25 isn’t level cap for much longer.
BFD raiding is a meme. You’ll be alright.

I ran BFD with my guild the other night with this build. Druids are a great compliment to priests in 10 mans right now, but we definitely take a back seat. I’d say the build isnt as strong as spamming wraths for instant healing touch. Omen of Clarity just doesn’t proc enough. But when it does OMG does it feel good. Also being in melee range has its downsides. For sure makes the game more interesting.

Anything druid that gets TOUCHED in pvp is fat rip.

You gotta run around kitty spamming sunfire. The second someone connects you die

Thats because you took Sunfire/Wild Strikes instead of Wild Growth/Survival of the fittest.

ok bro, whatever, im just trying to help OP avoid some conflict.
your over reaction here is very weird.

yes, unfortunately correct, this is just straight up inferior to the fury of stormrage rune.
free wrath spam is so strong, especially as you will be building spellpower gear, and the bonus instant HTs are a great addition.
for a staff build to work you are split between melee gear or caster gear.
such hybrid builds are fun for leveling, but like i have said, taking this into end game content will confuse your teammates and they may think you’re trolling or something.

lol neither are going to save you. Once someone is on top of you ie, rogue its a wrap. You do not have the mana to shift right now

Kitty spamming is bis for a reason

That’s if they choose to do the gearing that way. The Druid PVP sets and 0.5 tier set have all the stats you would want for this build. We’ll see what new gear they add in later phases as well. Hopefully they aren’t solely int/spell power OR strength/agi. Also, it looks like hit chance has been consolidated in the new gear. +1 for hybrids.

I agree that players are generally weary people not playing the meta spec found on Wowhead. I’m just having fun and trying to lean into the Discovery in SoD as much as possible.

I’m sorry but this will be total garbage at level 60 , mainly because druid has absolutely no abilities or talents which are built around your staff auto attacks.
it is not a supported play style.

again, nothing is stopping you from playing this in the wild, you will be essentially melee balance druid, not using any form or half your spells.

Do you work for Blizz?
How do you account for the runes coming at 40/60 we still don’t even know about?

I’m triggering because OP posts something interesting which NEVER happens around here anymore because of people like you so eager to immediately beat it down with negativity.

Oh you definitely use your other spells and forms. It actually plays very similarly to resto pvp in Vanilla. Druids have to adapt to their surroundings.
