not sure the feral changes took full effect
without talents in thick hide i have 3095 armor @lvl 30
tooltip in game hasnt changed from +1 +2 + 3 per point baseline per lvl, not sure its worth the 3 talents.
and im not sure the armor benefits been added correctly either
180 baseline armor per level plus multipliers,
not sure that itswas supposed to be 180 for 1 point and not increase with extra points spent but the changes say 180 baseline @1 point spent.
with one talent point, i gain 84 armor
2.8 per lvl 3179,
with 2pts i gain 168 armor
5.6 per lvl 3263,
and with 3pts i gain 252 armor total
8.4 per lvl 3347
even @3 per lvl that 90 baseline + multipliers 8,4 isnt the rigfht number based on what the tool tip says either
and 180 per level would be a net 5400 bonus armor @ lvl 30, which would be more than my total 3095 armor before points are spent
the way it plays out it looks more like 3 base armor per level per point spent maxing at 9 baseline. and not gaining multipliers.
is this correct? not sure the math is mathing!
can we get some clarification please, since the tool tip isnt correct but the “code implementation is working” what exactly is the calculation now?

If your math is accurate, then that means Thick Hide is a garbage talent. Truly disappointing. No wonder why the tooltip is confusing. The actual amount of armor you get is totally lackluster. Waste of 3 talent points.

Here is what I see:
The general formula for Bear Form armor in all scenarios is:
Agility Armor + Bonus Item Armor + (Base Item Armor + Thick Hide Armor) * 2.8
While completely naked:
*Shift Human to Cat: 68 + 90 = 158 (Correct)
- Shift Human to Bear: 68 + (90 * 2.8) = 68 + 252 = 320 (Correct)
With Gear:
-
Total Base Armor: 888 (68 Agility armor and 820 item armor)
-
Thick Hide Armor: (30 * 3) + (2 * 2) = 94
-
Human to Cat: 888 + 94 = 982 (Correct)
-
Human to Bear: 2504 (Correct)
Bug: Thick hide bonus is dropped when shifting directly between forms
-
Naked Cat to Bear: Expected 320, Actual 68. The difference is 252, which is exactly the calculated Thick Hide Bear contribution (90 * 2.8).
-
With Gear Cat to Bear: Expected 2504. Actual 2241. The difference is 263. which is exactly the Thick Hide Bear contribution (94 * 2.8).
Shifting from bear to cat also removes the armor contribution, so it fails to apply both ways.
At level 60 - looking at the raid set on wowhead as a baseline, it has:
Total Armor: 2,330 (1,580 base + 750 bonus)
Total Defense: 121
This would put thick hide at ~2000 armor contribution for 3/3 which is a considerable amount of physical damage reduction and functionally equivalent to ~2 extra pieces of plate armor.
I don’t think it’s unbalanced, I think we just don’t see the level 60 itemization they are very clearly planning for (high def on leather plus bonus armor)

excellent post. I thought it was off as well but hadn’t put the time in to zero in on the exact specifics
