Hi there!
I just had a question about druid tanking throughout the leveling process.
I played in Vanilla once upon a time, but I was so young, I didn't play optimally at all and only got to level 50 ish.
Now That I'm returning, I am having a blast! But I'm learning a lot of things I never knew or understood back in the day.
I have a 30 priest, but I'm wanting to re roll to tank. I don't really like the idea of playing a class that is already overly inflated with players(Such as warriors).
I don't have nearly as much time as I used to, so I doubt I'll be doing much endgame raiding (maybe a little but I dont have the time to be consistently committed)
My main question im getting at is are druids an acceptable tank throughout dungeons during the leveling process? I know they CAN tank but are they well accepted? Would I be denied invites to groups because "druid tank"?

you will not be denied
groups are marooned on chat channels sos’ing for a tank
be sure to pick up the tanking talents
(one early on that buffs threat- forget names)
and the 100% to gain rage after a crit
look into macros that “instantly” allow shifting forms
bears are fun and druids, as a whole, are lots of fun to play

The short answer is yes you will be denied into some groups. Thats just the sad fact. Warrior tanks on the other hand are NOT overpopulated. DPS warriors are overpopulated.
With that being said if Druid tank is what your heart is set on then dont let anyone stop you.

I leveled my druid to 60 as a tank, I almost exclusively dungeon spammed from 18-60. I was never denied a group. Not one single time.

I haven’t had a problem yet , but I’ve only done a few on my alt.
I’d wager most are happy just to find a tank.
Just to note, the first one is Feral Instinct, the second is Primal Fury.
Another to look at is Furor in the Restoration tree … why, Blizzard, why here? … to give 10 rage when shifting into bear form; needs 5 points whuch may be hard to prioritorize early on but can be helpful at times.
Druid tanks are very well accepted. Is there a chance some group/s won’t take you, sure, there will be plenty of others that will gladly take you. Oh, and despite what some uniformed will say, you can effectively tank raids as well!!
Druids are better than warriors in dungeons. No warrior holds aggro when I blow Adrenaline Rush/Blade Flurry, but druids can.
I’ve grouped with some good Druid tanks while leveling, and I actually prefer them to Warriors at this point. They seem to have better AoE threat.
yes we are great in dungeons.
we dont need as much CC and can effectivly tank 3-4 mobs with out causing problems.
more AOE threat allowed groups to be aoed easier.

I’ve not only never been denied groups but I’ve more often than not been praised compared to my warrior brethren.
Bears are simply better tanks in P1. Best dungeon tank, and don’t really start to fall behind a little until BWL. With that being said, we catch up and get back on par around AQ so it’s not like we decline forever it’s just at that precise moment, full T2 is really strong and Druid class sets don’t give tanking bonuses.
But short answer, I highly doubt you’ll be denied groups. Most people want more damage, health, armor, and threat…not less.

Bears are awesome tanks. Ignore the guides. WoW is a relatively easy game. Youll be an awesome tank as Druid.

Druids are great tanks in all levels of play.
But tank warriors are not overpopulated

I’ve only really experienced anti-Druid nonsense on these boards, not in-game. Sure, people exclude folks for a variety of dumb reasons but you’re generally better off for it.

if whoever you play with does not know this fact… find new people to play with
I enjoy tanking with my Druid. Most my groups appreciated the run. I played a warrior tank in vanilla. So far i’m liking the druid better than I did the warrior. More versatile overall imo.
