Druid race preference and why

I have almost exclusively played horde from my early days in vanilla. However, lately I have been thinking it might be nice to go night elf for classic just to change things up.

So, how about the rest of the community? What is your preference on Druid race, and why?

A change of pace isn’t a bad idea. If tyou want to try, go for it!

I played as a Night Elf Druid because I like the Alliance. I don’t like Tauren. If you’re speaking strictly of which will have an easier time, I, generally of the belief Tauren have it easier. Shaman were annoying AF to fight against - purgebot, Frostshock (not removable by shapeshifting for a considerable amount of time), and Earthshock… Compared to the poor little Paladins struggling to reach you haha.

That would be the idea. I’m just not sure I can make it work. I love night elves and their lore, but I just don’t know the alliance questing as well. Then again… that might be nice, haha.

you have a 50% chance to not pick the wrong race.

I’m playing Night Elf, but I can’t stand the sound of a male Night Elf dying.

Yeah, I prefer the female night elf model. So I’d probably choose that if I go night elf.

You only have two choices.

You’re either playing Alliance or Horde. Not much of a racial preference as a faction preference, but I’ll bite.

What do I like about Tauren? The way the gear looks on a Tauren. The imposing figure of a Tauren. Honorable lore. Warstomp. Increased stamina.
Dislike? The model is clunky and way too big, but it is intimidating. Less base agility. Missing some dodge. Animations. Forms are unbearable.

What do I like about Night Elves? The way the gear looks on an elf. Flips! Shadowmeld. Awesome lore. Good animations. Higher base agility. Dodge racial. The forms are awesome especially cat form.
Dislike? Not as intimidating. Lack of a caster stun like Warstomp.

There are things I like about both races. I have played Alliance mainly since Vanilla with some Horde alts. I tend to roll Alliance over Horde. And in Classic I will go Night Elf over Tauren for a slight advantage as feral, Shadowmeld (AFK death prevention), being back in the old Cat Form, and plain looking good in gear. Plus my guild is going Alliance so I have to go Night Elf.

It’s personal preference. If it weren’t simplified by faction choice it would be a bit more difficult to me.

I think Alliance questing is considered to be more refined. Alliance has longer distances to travel to most dungeons. Horde cities/towns/outposts, generally, have more guards and guards are higher levels. Personally, I feel like most Horde flight paths are more strategically placed.

To add to this, you will get stuck on doors more frequently as Tauren (mounted and unmounted). I believe your mount options were more limited (could not ride Undead horses or raptors excluding ZG raptor). Tauren have a larger hit box, but is unlikely to be of consequence as a Druid (caster/normal form only).

Blackrock Mountain is 3,000 miles away from the nearest horde city. :space_invader:

I prefer tauren honestly. I find 5% extra health is generally better than the NE dodge. I don’t place much value in shadowmeld outside of slighty better cat stealth. Warstomp, conversely, definately has it’s uses in pvp.

These are all minor things though.

Taurens can pick herbs better so they win.

I will be going herbalist so that could be a plus.

Whichever one you want, the racials pretty much even out. I would say NE has better lore just because druids were typically NE so horde ends up being yeah we kind of had to make a horde druid, yeah as a tauren druid you’ll have to deal with moon glade.

Haha. That’s true. I can’t remember where the post is, as I could only find a snippet:

Having faster access than Alliance to Scarlet Graveyard, Scarlet Library, Scarlet Armory, Scarlet Cathedral, Shadowfang Keep, Scholomance (can’t remember if they have a flight path in WPL), Stratholme, Wailing Caverns, Ragefire Chasm, Razorfen Kraul, Razorfen Downs, Maraudon, Dire Maul North East West, Zul’Farrak… Closer access to Azuregos and three of the green dragonflight bosses… Could pop in/out of teleporter at Booty Bay when ganking…

Granted, I was Alliance and I had the stupid Booty Bay transporter key thing. I assume it won’t be possible again because patch 1.12. Alliance had faster access to Stockades, Deadmines, Zul’Gurub, Gnomeregan, Onyxia, Blackrock Spire (upper and lower), Blackrock Depths, Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, one green dragon, Kazzak, and Uldaman sort of? I think that’s everything haha. I think AQ (20 and 40) as well as Naxxramas are closer for Horde (technically).

Warstomp is very underrated in my opinion. I’m a big fan of clutch abilities that make a difference when the chips are down. As a tank and in PVP I’ve used Warstomp to turn an imminent wipe/loss into a win countless times.

I love the original Tauren cat form. To me it looks really cool. Who doesn’t want to be a Lion with horns?

There are downsides to the huge model, but you get over it.

You don’t get over it. You’d hope for new models. Night Elf Cat form is so much better. :stuck_out_tongue:

Just be thankful Cat Form’s hitbox should be improved… I still remember being out of range with my Druid’s face inside the leg of some monsters.

T2 looks better on Night Elf than Tauren.
Judgment of Wisdom exists.

Play Horde if you want to. If you want it to be easier in the long run, go Alliance. Purge sucks. Blessing of Freedom is worse.

Been asking myself this. Idk which is better for tanking the Dodge or 5% health. I would assume Dodge but I could be wrong. Now I definitely do like the improved stealth of nelf. I think all look good in gear aside from tauren female. nelf questing area is better than mulgore for speed. One thing I can’t confirm is that I heard cat form is more viable with paly buffs than shaman so that may be something to consider if you actually plan on trying to dps in raids. Plus forms look better for nelfs. However tauren are such a cool peaceful race…
