my mage is 18, and my druid is 28, and druid feels way easier… but i really wanted to be a mage. should i tough out the mage or just keep playing cat tank?
You seem to already be leaning towards the Druid. IMO it’s one of the most fun class to play.
i wouldnt say leaning, it was just simpler
Play both, whats the rush?
Once you get cat form there’s no looking back. Mage aoe grinding is cool but most places are heavily contested now. At the end of the day it’s what you like best. But since you asked, my vote is for kitty.
And, FWIW, i really like my druid, now at 60, super fun, i have a warlock at 45 and warrior at 30. Druid is the most versatile and fun for me :}
i thought people would be sick of molten core once new things come out
Yet to step into MC, still having fun tho :}
You’re asking lowest tier class possible or the highest tier possible. I’ll leave it up to you to figure out which is which
but under communism all class equal!
My opinion:
Mage is more desired in raids and elitist dungeon runs, so you’ll get groups more often. Mage does more raw DPS. Mage has better mana management.
Druid is more flexible. Druid is the only class that can melee DPS, tank, heal and range DPS. Druid gets travel and aquatic form. Druid is, IMO, overall better if you take up Herb/Alch and have a guild that values ability over min/max.
Play what’s fun. If you play something out of obligation then you’ll be miserable, and miserable players tend to end up sucking at their jobs.
miserable was trying to get warrior to 30 lol
I’m leveling a mage to 60 to farm gold, mats, and gear for my real main, my druid:)
close thread
Leveled my druid first to 60 (as you can see) and I’m currently leveling a mage (lvl 37) for PvP purpose.
I have to say, I had my doubts about the druid because of what I heard before classic came out (jack of all trades, master of none… Worst healer, can’t dps, etc…) but I’m having tons of fun with it. I like to have all of its utility (innervate, stealth, can survive if you got aggro thanks to bear form, stuns, mobility, etc.)
Only downsides that I found:
-
you don’t have a normal res and it can be annoying but if everyone plays well you shouldn’t need one.
-
You don’t have any magic dispel
Also, it’s super easy to get gear or raid invites as there arent that many druids (well, depending on the guild).
World pvp is awesome too. Because of stealth, you can choose your fights and if somehow you get involved in a losing fight, you can just heal yourself, travel form or dash and then stealth again when out of combat, so you are very hard to kill…
edit: Oh and I almost forgot: Teleport moonglade. Cant tell you how much time that save me when I want to farm demonic runes in felwood or icecap/mountain silversage in winterspring. With my HS in IF, I can easily teleport on one continent or another.
i can attest that druid is way more fun to [play and if you take skinning and mining you will never be broke and twinked out!!!
FYI mage gets incredibly strong once you’re deep in the frost tree. So much synergy between the talents.
Druid is a faster leveler when mage can’t AOE grind. In all likelihood, you won’t be able to effectively do so now on most servers.
Druid has a lot of versatility, and they fill 2 raid rolls (healer/tank-offtank). Many go heart of the wild, resto hybrid spec, so they can just swap gear to heal or tank in raids. This is nice on bosses with lots of adds like Major Domo, where your guild might be short on tanks.
Druid is not the most powerful PvP class, not even close to mage. When you have the skill though, it’s fun and can really drown people in salt. Having stealth in any version of wow has always been strong.
Mages definitely farm better, because they can AOE huge packs of non-ranged mobs and just collect the loot. That’s not to say that Druids aren’t great farmers, but mage, hunter, and lock are godly when it comes to getting gold.
Travel is kind of a toss up. Druids get travel form and are in no rush to get their mount. They also get a teleport to Moonglade at level 10. This means being able to swap from eastern kingdoms to Kalimdor near instantly. Mages however can teleport to all their factions major cities later on, which is insanely useful basically forever. There’s never a time, even well into 60, that porting isn’t great.

This. People see mage and assume you need to level AoE, but it’s really fun and versatile to level up normally. Mage has lots of backups to stop you from dying when things go south, and very few overheads because you make your own food/water and scale well without gear. So you can get and and go anywhere without worrying about being unprepared or getting overwhelmed. And I never get tired of seeing my frostbolt deal a 3x damage crit against some helpless fool I froze in place.
Go with whichever class you have more fun with.
