Did you have certain MoP trinkets that causes gold to drop? There are two of them and they cause your characters to sparkle gold.
It was an innate effect to the form itself, not an added trinket. Like the shadow on the wings that is still there.
The glitter is probably still there in normal flight mode.
When they made every mount dragon riding they took away most of the cool contrails.
