I’ve been testing my druids bear form to see the reduction in damage while killing mods and while it more than doubles my armor, there is zero damage reduction.
Please tell me this is a bug that is being fixed.
Otherwise, why play classic at all as a druid.
Just to clarify:
You have tested this against melee-only mobs, right? Like a cat or a beast in general?
Take a sample of 100 hits taken from the same mob in and out of bearform and do a t test.

Post logs and we can tell you for sure the difference. Also note, doubling your armor isn’t going to halve the damage and if the incoming damage is sufficiently small, the variance may not make Bear Form vs Caster Form noticeable.
I have been testing it on Wild Grells and I’ve done a test with 8 so far. The damage difference between bear form ( reduction of 31.9% ) vs non bear form ( 18.5% reduction )
I see a 1 -2 point difference once in a while but nothing to support what should be almost double the armor.
These stats are set to be accurate vs level 12 but the Grells I’m facing are only lvl 11.
If there is no difference on a lvl 11, how could I possibly tank a dungeon ?
You should try to post a log, or record individual hits every time for at least 100 times.
How much damage are they dealing total?
Let’s s suppose a grell hits for 10 on average. An 18% reduction will bring that down to 8, say. A 32% reduction will bring it down to 7. Sounds about right.

read the tooltip my guy…no damage reduction–just armor increase and HP
you will still get hit pretty hard by casters
dont let that discourage you though, druids are awesome and VERY useful
Also take into account that mobs also have damage ranges. Taking 13% less damage might not seem like much right now when you’re fighting stuff that’s probably hitting for 9-12 a swing.
These Grells are NOT casters and the tooltip shows damage of physical attacks is reduced by 31.9%. The damage however is almost identical in both forms.
Ah well, I assume it gets better
sorry, maybe I misread…you are saying that your physical damage is not being decreased by the additional armor you gain in bear form? Seems odd, and a very big bug if that’s the case. Following
I notice that I take less damage in bear, than in caster, while questing at Auberdine.
It´s not much, but there is definately less incoming physical damage. Casters hit like a truck though, as we don´t mitigate it with armor, but resistance.
Because their damage is too low to even notice the difference compared to the natural random variance of their attacks.
Once mobs hit harder, you’ll start to notice the difference more.

What I do is cast a HoT, Rejuve or Renew, before shifting into bear.
Which one I use depends on how big and bad the enemy is.
If it is really big and bad, I hit the big heal, moonfire, little heal, bear, go to town. Hope this helps.
You’re getting hit by ridiculously weak enemies where that reduction is entirely swallowed up in rounding. Also note that the level of the enemy will dramatically effect how much reduction you actually have as the tooltip you see on your character screen is based on taking damage from enemies that are YOUR level. If the attacker is lower, you reduce more for the same armor and likewise if the attacker is higher, you reduce less for the same armor.
Trust me, your armor is working just fine.
