Drek'thar needing a wheelchair but jumping up to cast spells on wheelchair

I know he’s old, but is he crippled or just has trouble walking? I remember him in the shaman class hall like 10 years ago and he was in wheelchair there too and in the orc heritage armor he’s in the wheelchair in the AV boss room but he jumps up on the wheelchair to summon something to fight.

A lot of people with physical disabilities that require wheelchairs can still stand up?

I wouldn’t put too much thought into it though, it’s probably an animation restriction that they didn’t put very much thought into.

I figured it was just missed. I was wondering if it was ever stated in the story or one of the books.

IIRC there was no direct reference to it, he just showed up one day in a wheelchair in Cataclysm I believe. Probably safe to assume his age is just catching up to him.

Drek’Thar was already a really old guy when they first gave him a voice in 1997, so the wheelchair in Cata was unannounced and not explained but not exactly surprising.

That’s what makes it kind of funny. At least to me.

Like - if there was some lore reason, I would not bat an eye. It is explained or whatever.

But the fact that buggy animation can make the infirm in game stand up like they were touched by the son of the lord… that makes me chuckle to think about :

Worried Mother : “My child is ill, Thrall. What should I do?”

Thrall : “Hm. Take him to a zone with phasing issues. He may grow strong, yet.”

This actually brought me back to Thrall’s hilarious moonwalk run animation in Battle for Mount Hyjal, not sure if he still does it, but damn he had some moves. (But only there, nowhere else.)

sadly, only horde characters become feeble and infirm with old age.
danath trollbane and halford wyrmbane seem just fine.

Drek’thar will die of old age soon. Maybe the first Orc in generations considering most Orcs died during the second war and the destruction of Draenor. He is truly unique in this sense.

Drek’thar being in a wheelchair was actually the result of Afrasiabi wanting to mess with Metzen, knowing that Drek’thar was one of his favourite characters and a core part of Thrall’s backstory. There was no real lore reason for it, and he certainly isn’t more ancient that some characters that are out of wheelchairs, it was just Afrasiabi being tasked to write quest stuff and deciding to ‘prank’ Metzen.

It’s not a spinal injury that put him in the chair, so he probably can stand up. Not for terribly long.

Yet another reason to avoid the Alterac Valley battleground. Captain Generic McNoPersonality vs Man in a Wheelchair!

He was so blinded by Elemental Prophecies during Cataclysm that he atrophied in body so that even after that when he regained his ability to see using the Elements he still remained unable to walk for very long.

More specifically, it was at or near the entrance to AV battleground. The Garrosh-led Horde wanted the Frostwolves to be more active in the war effort and Drek’thar told them to take a hike.

Also, does anyone else think we should get a wheelchair mount?

because of all the horde losses in av over the years he is crippled but he still gets up to fight them anyway what a trooper

One would think a shaman of Drek’thar’s standard he would just make a few hand motions to do everything he did standing up during that event.

Weird, but I guess it’s not unheard of for him to get out of his wheelchair when the time is needed for him to do so.

I’m just grateful the Orc Heritage questline didn’t involve his funeral like some rumors were suggesting.

Is this talked about anywhere? Because it was always my understanding Kosak wrote the EK quests for Cata.

Afrasiabi claims to have wrote Sylvanas personally in the game since the beginning.

Kosak only wrote the Short Story as his way of explaining how Afrasiabi wrote her in Cataclysm.

Kosak wrote the New Zones while Afrasiabi wrote the Revamped Old Zones.

Why Afrasiabi decided to not take the Zones seriously is beyond me(he only took Sylvanas seriously it seems and only as his ultimate Supervillain at that). Even Kosak treated the Zones he wrote with the gravity they deserved.
