Drake Crest Catchup

There is currently no way to catch up on drake crests, bar wasting your hard earned wyrm crests that you’ll eventually need. The removal of first half of m+ created a void.

The only way to skip drake step is to go directly to +6 and then another problem arises; now you need wyrm but only aspect crests drop.

(Might be wrong on that part, maybe +5 is possible)

I don’t think you understand how the system was changed. You arn’t going from Heroic/M0 straight to the previous M+10.

The base rewards for Heroics and M0 were bumped up to meet M+2 directly.

Heroics in S3: Adventurer 1/8
Heroics in S4: Adventurer 4/8 476 ilvl can be upgraded to 489

M0 in S3: Adventurer 4/8
M0 in S4: Champion 1/8

M+2 in S3: Veteran 1/8
M+2 in S4: Champion 2/8

Drakes: M0, Normal Raids, World Content
Wyrm: M+2-5, Heroic Raids
Aspect: M+6 and up, Mythic Raids

Drakes come from 0s and Normal Raids
Next step is wyrms from m2-5 + Heroic Raids

I though you can get Wyrms easily. Even in LFR you if you use the tokens you can trade tokens for Wyrms crest?

It’s strange there’s no repeatable source for Drakes. You have one-offs like M0, Awakened weeklies, and rares and that’s it.

You can. By spamming 2s nonstop

There’s a season long total which means you just need to grind. There shouldn’t be a catch up

It’s the least needed crest for upgrading though isnt it?

In theory, I think.

Drake is for Vet 5-8 and Champ 1-4 and Vet 5-8 is likely where many pure PuG-ers need the ilvl boost to start getting invites to M+2 and above. That’s been my experience on my raw PuG DPS alt. People generally won’t look your way unless you’re above 500 for a M+2.

You can get 200+ drake crests per week from doing all the activities that award them. You’ll catch up in a few weeks.

That’s my point though, drake can’t be farmed, there’s a hard lock on how many you can gain weekly and no catchup mechanic if you missed week(s).

Really? Where from? I know whelpling in world content, but drake I thought doesn’t have many.

And beside, it’s world content. None of the other crests you need to go outside.

That’s alright. It’s entry level stuff. You’re not meant to be there forever. And if that’s where you top out, then catching up and capping isn’t truly an issue then

They way it is now isn’t okay. Being forced to go backwards in content to get crests isn’t fun. If you’re doing M+2 you don’t want to go do M0, it’s a waste of time. You also don’t want to trade your wyrm crests to drakes because after the drakes guess what you need?

Going from the old system where you could farm +2-10 to get drakes to them being locked behind weeklies isn’t a step in the right direction or make any logical sense. It’s wholely a worse system, just like the whole gear track system was worse than valor. Blizzard keeps tiptoeing around the problem/solution and don’t want to commit. The problem being that everyone needs paths to upgrade gear(Character progression) and the solution being just make all gear upgradeable to max using a single currency with different content being able to earn it faster than others.

Or skip the drakes and run slightly harder content that drops gear that doesn’t need drakes to upgrade?

Yeah exactly. Only +5 drops the crest required to upgrade what you get from it. Everything above and below requires another crest. I know that in theory, you could just do a higher key that skips the need for drake crest to begin with, but with how picky pugs can be, that couple upgrades that you can’t do would make all the difference.

So don’t upgrade. The difficulty from 0 to 2 isn’t worth the time/currency to upgrade. Just wait until you get to where it’s strictly Wyrm crests to upgrade gear as that’s what you’re going to be collecting in bulk anyway.

This just makes me chuckle considering the massive gap in crest acquisition between raids and keys, especially aspect crests.

As of next week you’ll be able to run 3x raids on normal plus all the weekly open world activities to get several hundred drakes crests per week. You won’t technically be able to infinitely farm but you’ll get more than you’ll ever need after a week or 2 of farming them if you really want them.

What? Is there an update?

The plan was originally to have 2 weeks rotation and after the 6 weeks, no rotation. People are assuming it’s still the plan.
