I was rewatching Star Trek Deep Space Nine and I am on the episode where they go over how Odo has to revert back to his true form after so much time in his more humanoid looking form.
So it got me wondering if it’s similar to what the dragons do with visage form? Does being in visage for too long start to weigh on them? Does being in their true dragon form give them relief after being in visage for so long?
I would imagine and hope that a dragon is much stronger in their true dragon form than their visage… even though there are plenty of times where dragons choose to fight in their visage over their dragon form. Perhaps I’m wrong and both forms are equal and it’s more of a matter of preference?
I wouldn’t really like it if their visage forms are stronger. They are big powerful magical dragons and it feels like a downgrade to turn into their visage forms.
That’s one of the reasons I didn’t like Fyrakk fight in Amirdrassil. I wanted Tyrande there fighting but even more so I wanted to see the Dragon Aspects in the Dragonflight expansion fighting the big bad Dragon in their Dragon Forms.
It felt so epic fighting against Deathwing with the help of the mighty Dragon Aspects flying over us but this fight was just meh…

Oh 100% agree. I hate how dragons seem to prefer their visage over their true forms. You would think the dragon isles would have them be in their dragon form since it’s their home…. Everything should accommodate for their size and such.
I get wanting to be in visage to talk to mortals in a more approachable manner or if they are trying to be subtle and hide their identity, but it seems like visage is their go to for everything… even combat.
I want to see actual dragons not elves or humans.

Depends on the dragon. Krasus seemed to prefer his visage form since he spent so much time in it while living in Dalaran and Kalec seems to be similar. And Wraithion seems like he spends more time in human form than dragon, so he might be similar at this point.
Yeah. I just find it annoying. I want them to embrace their dragon forms more. Every cut scene with them in full dragon form is way better imo. They need to take a tip from Deathwing and Onyxia and use visage form to trick the alliance and dragon form to cause wanton destruction.

So you’re saying that a sturdy bucket would be a thoughtful winterveil gift for any dracthyr or dragons in your life?
It seems that with Dragonflight (maybe earlier?) The visage of a Dragon is not a disguise they choose willy nilly, but a form that represents something internal, like their “peoplesona”? Which to me is super weird, but we had stuff like Kalec dating humans before, so the visage being what they look like just as much as their draconic body makes sense, but I don’t exactly like this.
But, a more meta and objective way to look at this is simple, It is way harder to convey facial expressions and emotions with the dragons, so having most dialogues and feeling heavy scenes be done in their visage form is a shortcut. Maybe thats why Razageth was so extra, they had to deliver all those emotions mostly on the voice acting.

It’s insane to me that Alexstrasza vs Raszageth was the only dragon fight scene in the entire expansion.
Dragons in DF feel more like elves that sometimes turn into dragons than the other way around.

Korialstasz spent DECADES in his Krasus form, so I doubt it.
in other fiction dragons take on humanoid forms as well. To avoid their powers getting out of control or conserve energy
Usually it’s for infiltration and disguise.

From what i Recall of legion, Ebyssian also most of the time rocked the HMT form, as he was raised as one.

tbf Fyrakk probably wanted to test out his axe on ‘worthy’ opponents. After all, he does give us the opportunity to try and stop him from corrupting the heart of the world tree.
He does use his dragon form more and more as the fight progresses. To the point that the final phase is only his dragon form.
He can’t use his freshly buffed axe with those tiny T-rex looking arms.
Fyrakk wasn’t really the problems but the Aspects who seem to be back there waving like cheerleaders instead of turning into the powerful beings they are to help us fight just like they once did against Deathwing.

yeah it makes me wonder why they are even there. They do not give out buffs or anything. At least the Titans during Argus actually did stuff. Golganneth with removing the crap from phase 1 while giving out buffs. Aggramar buffing the off tank to soak the balls. Eonar with the rezzing tree etc.

I think their visage is really important from a psychological perspective. They exist in a world of mortals now, and it’s hard to live in a world in which you don’t see yourself through the lens what you see in your everyday life. And so I think a lot of them probably see the myriad choices of mortal forms they could take as a way of expressing their identity in a way that gives them a feeling of belonging to the weird, foreign world that exists in a post-Titan world.
Like Senegos. He’s so unbelievably old, he grounds himself by choosing a Troll visage, because he feels “at home” in a world back Trolls were just about all there was.

His visage arms and legs aren’t much better. He has quiet a Beavis-like physique.
I can forgive it since the whole arena is like in a dream
I guess its the emerald dream
I don’t know, I guess we could ask Ebonhorn. Unless he snuck away ever so often to stretch his wings, he has been “trapped” in his visage form for at the very least generations if not centuries. The only one(s) who knew he was a black Dragon prior to Legion had long since died. Lady Highmountain only thought he was just a really long lived Tauren.
I’d argue that. Bigger, stronger, faster, more agile, etc. Problem is even with all of these things, they make a very appealing target. Like hitting the whole barn instead of just the door. I think I remember Alexstrasa mention something about preferring her visage form over that of her Dragon form due when interacting with the mortal races. Makes them more comfortable over staring down a maw of teeth.
Oh it does and they are. While not everywhere as mentioned above about ease of interacting with us mere mortals, atop the Seat of the Aspects they are in their full Dragon forms. When traveling, they change to use their wings as opposed to magical flight or riding a mount.
Oh right, we do see Wrathion more often in his visage state. Still unlike other Black Dragons he’s not hiding who or what he is. So why remain mostly in visage over his true Dragon form?
