No, I’m not. The system is completely flawed. You get almost no vigor if you climb/rise to get up a cliff. You also get nothing if you hit a tree and FR has tons of invisible branches/clipping.

It’s fine- you’re probably just taking off way too often/spending vigor faster than you’re regenerating it.
Dragonriding is best for longer flights.
You need to be able to leverage the terrain to your advantage, and if not, you’ll need to do strafing runs in the air until you can get to where you’re going.
TLDR - flying in and of itself is a minigame- it isn’t hard- spam flying straight upwards and keep yourself level (slightly downward) about one second after- repeat until you are way up in the air and have vigor. Get gud!
I haven’t ran out of vigor in a while so I have no idea what you’re talking about.

It can be tricky. For me I have moments where I find things really effortless. Other times I can’t get very far before I run out of vigor.
So first: Make sure you have all the glyphs.
Angles mean something. Point up when going up, point down to gain speed/vigor. At a certain velocity, things click and it gets easier.
Even the other day I was walking across the plains because I simply couldn’t get the up enough to get the momentum going.
With some practice it gets better and there will be less times of frustration. Can’t say it won’t be there, as it’s still there for me, but it can get better.

Can’t say i agree with you OP on that. While i don’t see it much fun as it’s cracked up to be and just sort of meh at best really, it’s certainly not a failure.
But the system isn’t hard to learn. Just a bit annoying and tedious at really half of the times.

You should be using ascend to go up, and you should make sure you are pointing your camera up to get max altitude out of it.
Most importantly you should be going and grabbing glyphs to pad out your vigor, once you have 4 and figure out how flying works it’s incredibly easy

Point your camera angle up while skyward ascending. If your dragon turns blue while doing this you’re doing it correctly. You’ll gain vigor while climbing and you climb farther faster as well.

How do you run out of vigor? I can use one vigor and not run out.
