Dragonriding vs traditional flying

Traditional flying

  1. safe from mobs by hovering or levitating or off the ground to be at a safe distance from any NPC

  2. can take photos anywhere without any interference or any other concerns

  3. you can afk on it and do something personal in your real life

  4. far more flying mounts over the years

  5. less demanding from its players to from point A to point B

  6. causes no motion sickness like at all

Dragonriding

  1. you can’t hover or levitate or staying stationary

  2. it’s annoyingly interactive (not my cup of tea anyways)

  3. can’t take photos with it due to it being so interactive any inaction will send you the ground which is a negative on my end.

  4. it can cause motion sickness to those who do have it (I don’t but still even with the safeguards that are in place it’s a bandaid)

  5. way too demanding for attention of its users

  6. if you want to afk you had HAD to look for a safe spot to go afk to do personal things in the real world

I agree, the new flying is way too janky, fidgety and vigor limited to be enjoyable. I want nothing more than to go back to real flying. If i wanted to micromanage every second while traveling I’d buy a GOOD flight simulator, not some half-azzed system cobbled into an Otherwise enjoyable MMO. :speak_no_evil::hear_no_evil::see_no_evil:

Both types of flying can coexist. This isn’t zero sum.

Not if i get there first… after zooming past to hover mouse over node on map to see if i want it

Both have pros and cons.
I agree with all of the pros you said about trad flying, I love being able to fly around and get the perfect angle for a screenshot, and it’s simple and easy, but it is a bit static, uninteresting and slow.

I also agree that Dragonriding is quite hard to get used to, and can be bad for people with motion sickness or even with some lag. But it is incredibly fast, super fun and a great way to enjoy the game if you are good at it, and if you aren’t you can always ask around for help, cause fun fact you can actually ride along with someone elses dragon if they have it enabled!!!

Both have great pros and terrible cons, no reason to pit them against each other when we can see the benefits of both!

I’m really enjoying dragonriding. Much more engaging.

Dragon riding v normal flight is like comparing a dependable Toyota sedan v a drag car, sure the drag car is faster, but it brings a lot of problems to the table.

If you want to go somewhere with minimal interaction use a flight path.

If you want to get there faster but with more interactivity then use the drake.

A video game screenshot isn’t winning the Pulitzer. Make do with what you have.

I prefer flying over dragon riding (even though I like it a lot), simply because I don’t have to recharge once every while. Flying, I can stop mid air and be safe; I can move from A to B continuously if I so want, if I hit mountains, my speed doesn’t drop off; I can just climb instantaneously and go over it (all things I have encountered in DF).

I like DR, but give me proper flying too; DR complements flying by it’s incredible speed for both traveling long distance and landing sweetly from a great height; but I don’t think it’s a replacement for proper flying.

Dragonflying is far superior and I hope they bring it to the rest of WoW because normal flying sucks so bad whenever I’m forced back to using it, that said I hope they bring regular flying back soon in Dragon Flight for people who don’t like dragon flying.

half of wow is afking. if I can’t afk in the air or auto run in flight it’s useless

Yeah, keep both in game.

More than 1/2 of WoW is afking.

you can use the fp for that.

Blizz should have given us the option to do both. I’m sick of my stupid blue dragon and would like to either pop flight form or use one of my mounts.
