According to:
It appears that Dragonriding will replace regular flying while in any of the Dragon Isle zones. So, our flying mounts will be ground mounts while in the Dragon Isle zones and through the entirety of the expansion.
I’m not sure how to feel about this.
On one hand it makes sense. Why introduce a new Dragonriding system with all of these new options and customizations and allow regular flying as well?
I don’t know how to feel about this? Opinions?

Doesn’t make sense that my Nether drake’s can’t fly there, big sad because they’re among the coolest dragons in game.
But at the same time i understand why they’re doing this, they don’t like how much of a …passive gain flying is where you mindlessly fly from point A to B and want to make it more interesting and it’s cheaper I guess to only get dragon riding rigged to the new mounts rather than all flying mounts.
I withhold judgement until more of the mechanic is shown.

Me too, I’m not upset or mad about it, just confused about how it makes me feel. I love being able to use my usual set of flying mounts, but I’m open-minded about it.
I for one, knew this was coming and that’s why I know it will feel bad. Not ALLOWING the option to fly regularly and limiting us to ‘limited use flying that may or may not feel a bit better to use’ is very nu-Blizzard at this point.
Restrict players, make everything into progression systems, etc.

So we go from 140 mounts in Shadowlands to 1 in the next. Makes sense, Blizzard.

Makes perfect sense really. This way they can say oh we are not restricting flight.
All the better to keep people on the hamster wheel, and get the MAU’s.

I just hope that dragon riding will work OUTSIDE of that zone.

I’m willing to give the new flying system a shot.
But I am worried that it will be fun for 2 weeks, and then just annoying all expansion.

I read what Feasel said, he doesn’t say dragonriding is replacing flight. That’s just what WoWhead is saying and I’m not sure why.
Dragonriding sounds fun, but only as an added system while I’m waiting for real flight to be unlocked.
Jeremy says “Finding those different spires to jump off of becomes an interesting thing to look for as you’re traversing the world.” Well we already do this with goblin gliders, that’s not flying and would never satiate the want for it.
I also want to fly my other dragon mounts around the isles. I’m honestly so annoyed about the constant fight for flight, it shouldn’t be like this. People want to fly, just let them…

I really don’t care about this limitation. The New flying is super cool and funny. I hope it becomes the main flying system for all mounts, in the future.

That fine but a lot of ppl who paid $ for their mounts are gonna rage

Myself and some companions are rather nervous about the ‘dragon riding’ reveal. In theory it seems rather awesome (if not a form of grind given it’s not technically ‘freedom’) … but a valid concern is how this new thing operates with those of us that are accustomed to high ping and some input lag.
I’m certainly not about to speak for anyone else but vehical use / certain world quests that rely on precise movement are already miserable. Having a selling point of a new expansion be the same would be absolutely terrible.
With some hope it doesn’t ‘replace’ flight - it’d be rather silly for a druid to forget how to fly (again) or any form of mount that has wings (dragons, for example).

i don’t care tbh and i can understand why it is not possible .
there are 700 mounts + in the game , the drake customization sound good
Given that I don’t really like dragon mounts in general (I like small mounts that don’t flap that much) and really don’t like the animation for protodrakes… this will be interesting.
I do not want a zone where I have to play a version of flappy bird to travel about. I hope they don’t do a worst case scenario and let me keep my little rocket ship.

The customization helps, and also I think it’s really great they are making flying something more interactive and immersive. In a way we are training our dragons to learn how to fly better or learn new tricks, and it reminds me of the Pandaria dailies to grow our dragon into an actual mount.
If it’s done well, I won’t care because I’ll be having fun! This is the hope!

I’m definitely torn now. I’ll just take some regular flying please.

I know how I feel about it, I hate it.
I dont use ultra-large mounts and I own many hundreds of them. I prefer very small mounts as it makes it easier to mine and pick herbs instead of a big mount blocking the node.

You’ll likely be on your ground mount then, seeing as this system seems to mainly be for long-distance travel and not hopping 30 yards to the next herb/ore/quest item.
I’m fine learning to fly on the dragon for the beginning of the xpac.
I do hope at some point you can unlock your other flying mounts through whatever pathfinder type requirements they might have.
(no I dont care about those who feel “punished/slapped in the FACE!!” over Pathfinder
)
