Dragonriding in war within

I was on the ptr forums looking up posts and was thinking.

Ion said at Blizzcon that Dracthyr in war within will start at level 10 for fresh characters.

Which means Dragonflight will start at level 10??

How will Dragonriding work? Because right now you need max flying.

Will max flying be at level 10 now and you wont need to use ground mounts anymore?

They said in one of the Blizzcon videos that Dragonflight is going to become the “starter” zone instead of BFA. They also said that going forward dragon riding, aka dynamic flight, will be seen as the standard form of travel. They didn’t say any specifics, I’m assuming because the finer details have yet to be worked out, but I would guess with players going to Dragonflight zones so early that would mean dynamic flying will also get unlocked pretty early. So maybe gone are the days of being restricted to slow ground mounts and it’s about time, I’d say.

True. But that would mean there would be hundreds if not thousands of ground mounts no longer being used anymore.

1 to 10 for a new person not doing timewalking.

They create their character… do the starter zone of say exile’s reach by the time they finish it they can now dragonride.

Ground mounts won’t be needed anymore but yet blizzard keeps releasing ground mounts.

Twitch drop had the camel mount. Guardians of the dream has 6 ground mounts.

As a dracthyr in 10.2.5 i can just soar everywhere now.

Many people just collect mounts for the sake of collecting. It is a big part of the end game. They don’t have to serve much of a purpose otherwise.

i suspect dragonflight won’t start at level 10 but rather work like other classes such as paladin druids when reaching the proper level the skill will become available. That or you may get it slightly earlier then others. It’s difficult to say as the race is special in that it’s also tied to the class.

Nobody’s forcing anyone to use any type of mount. If you want to use a ground mount, you can. I did a lot of dragon isles exploring on a ground mount, especially before I found all the glyphs.

I completed dragonflight’s initial story on the ground, I believe requiring flight three times to reach something. :memo::robot:

I’m ok with this.

If you want to use them, use them. There’s nothing saying you can’t just go for a run for fun.

You can still stand around town on your spectral tiger to try to make people look at you.

Updating the primary method of travel means leaving the old one behind. That’s just ther fact of it.

The game is evolving. Evolve with it. Or don’t. Doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things.

Besides, you’ll still use your ground mounts in dungeons that you can’t fly in.

They need to improve upon it some. If I were them I would just eliminate vigor, all it’s doing is making taking off vertically and gliding down, much like an ICBM, the way to go and it’s a dragon not a rocket.

If you could flap moving forward without gimping yourself you wouldn’t get there any faster and it would feel more immersive than doing an impression of a nuclear launch as your most efficient use of the system.

Ground mounts would still have their place. Plenty of instanced content doesn’t allow flying mounts (BGs for an example), sometimes it’s easier to get around a city or small area on a ground mount, and again… nobody is forcing anyone to fly just because it is available. I personally get bored beyond belief traveling between quests, zones, and etc on ground mounts. So knowing new characters will probably have the option to use the interactive, fun flying almost right out the gate is a 10/10 in my book. And then for times where I need or prefer a ground mount… well, they’re right there available for use as well.

Dynamic flight is pretty clunky when it comes to moving around on the ground. Ledges and uneven terrain both suck for it. I’ll actually use ground mounts in some situations just because they handle a lot more intuitively for me when it comes to gravity.
