Traditional flight should be the base way to fly, and the “dragon riding” buttons should be added into it to enhance it rather than give us gliding w/ boosts. So I agree with OP, we should be able to hover while dragon riding.

The only bird that can hover is the hummingbird because it is so light and can flap it’s wings so fast.

The larger something is the harder it would be to hover.

Unless, of course, you are Kalecgos, and then you can hover in sigil-thick air delivering a monologue for the entire capitol to hear.

Gotta love that video game logic

Use static flying to hover.

Problem solved!

I wonder how much longer we’ll be able to do that, though. When dragonriding gets turned on with all our other flying mounts, will there be a toggle for us to choose which flying system we’re using? Or will all our mounts just be “upgraded” to dragonriding as the new default flying system? They mentioned a limited number of old mounts can’t be adapted to dragonriding, and if those are the only ones who can BC fly after the next xpac, I predict those mounts will become highly valuable to those of us who still want BC flying. I’ve yet to hear anything authoritative about this and I have a suspicion that Blizzard isn’t going to give us a choice. They’re just going to unilaterally upgrade us to the flying system they prefer we use now.

Yep! They already said that. It’ll basically be a land, swap the toggle, take off again functionality.

If there were a button to toggle between while mid-air, I wouldn’t mind that, but the default should be up to the player. The one downfall of this is action bar 1 would be replaced with dragon-riding skills regardless of which form of flying you use, the way you’re suggesting it at least.

Okay, I must have missed it. I will relax and enjoy my hovering.
