Dragonriding Alternative - Medical Reasons

I do not suffer from any ailments from Dragonriding, however, I play with my wife on every single game and WoW has never been any different. We love to level together in every expansion and enjoy the world. It started great and then came along Dragonriding. The very first day she got so nauseous and sick that we had to stop about 10 minutes after flying for the first time. We thought maybe it was due to photosensitivity as we have learned she is prone to flashing lights. I’ve scoured the internet on every setting I can find to lower the intensity such as spell details in the dungeons, the world, and in raid settings. The new accessibility options were added for motion sickness and photosensitivity and after selecting every option I felt good that two days later we would be able to play without a hitch.

Unfortunately, I was utterly wrong and I am forced to do one of two things to play the expansion with her.

Option A) I will be the pilot of the dragonriding with her riding as a partner with her eyes closed and not able to see anything, know what is going on, where we are going, what I am doing, or see any scenery from the new islands until I land and say she can open her eyes. She will miss most of the expansion this way and it is not a good viable option and would leave her confused, missing out on the world, and demotivate her to want to play at all.

Option B) We are ground-mounted the entire time unless it is necessary to fly, in this case, we revert to option A to get up and down locations. However, before I even consider it I will run around mountains and cliffs just to find a possible spot to get up to the location we need to be at or that we can goblin glide to.
This is the option we are choosing as I don’t want her to miss out on the expansion itself.

This has removed so much of the game and having an accessible option for those that suffer from Motion Sickness, Vertigo, Photosensitivity, or just medical problems that cannot physically enjoy the Dragonriding system is an absolute must. There should be an NPC that gives you the option of normal flying for medical reasons.

Please, Blizzard, I am begging for some help because you have designed the world around flying and it has taken a huge hit to how some people can experience the world that you built due to physical or medical limitations.

It should not be a hard fix if you had already planned on adding flying in 10.1 as the rumors I have read and heard.

I wish I could join up with you! I am in the same boat as your wife, compounded by inability to use a mouse. I didn’t want to have to depend on someone else’s spare time and indulgence to be able to function in this game – I was really looking forward to crafting actually being useful! But it’s so nauseating and so frustrating that I don’t know whether I can manage to do whatever’s needed to get the Loremaster thing that (I pray desperately) would open up “regular” flying again?

They simply need to release normal flying next month. There’s no reason the two can’t exist side by side.

Honestly, it feels bad knowing that all of my friends are max level because they could take advantage of the system created. I have no issues with the system but I refuse to leave my wife behind. Normal flying should have been the option at the very start along with Dragonriding. Maybe the glyphs could have given a boost to normal mounted speed to be equal to Dragonriding. (If the speeds are different, I have not tested or can tell a difference honestly)

I 100% agree and this should have been in the developer’s minds.

Also, I am the OP - Changed characters when I realized it wasn’t on my main. So sorry about that!

You normally don’t get flying at the start of an expac.

Classic doesn’t have this problem.

Retail is dries up and hemorging already

You normally don’t get structurally-required impossible-to-progress-without nausea-and-vertigo-inducing mechanics at the start of an expac either. I would happily give up all flying this early in the expac if it meant I could play the game without it making me sick and there would be a bearable version of flying introduced later. But I can’t not fly because I have to get through the required campaign quests.

(And for the people who say “just take dramamine lol” – dramamine knocks me out for 18 hours and doesn’t help the nausea. And it doesn’t solve my inability to use a mouse.)

We have flying at the beginning of an expansion now.

Yes, but this expansion we did. We cannot utilize it because of how disorientating, nasuea-inducing, and motion-sickening it is. I do not see your point when it is completely invalid because every single person starts the expansion by flying on the ‘Dragon Riding’ system.

But this isn’t classic.

How is that relevant to the issues in the post?

while i agree then they would be on the forums posting to increase the flight speed to the dragon riding. making the new thing obsolete.

No they wouldn’t. There’s literally zero reason for this and makes no sense. This is just trying to come up with excuses.

Seriously, what is the problem with “people who love dragonriding can love dragonriding and people who hate it can fly the way they loved?” What is the problem with letting people choose what works for them?

I would HAPPILY take the slower “standard” flight! The flight speed is a drawback for me, not a benefit.

ok so we will not see the how this is fair the 280% vs the 800% flying speed to farming?

there will be people whom want the other flying mounts speed increase.

That’s what people don’t seem.to comprehend: the slower speed is one of the main reasons people want normal flying. Because DR is too fast.

Sounds like you’re just here to be dismissive and disrespectful.

And they can be ignored. That’s not a reason to gate normal flying.

You’re completely missing that both his wife and I LOVED WOW for years before the new system made it unplayable for us.

It’s not that the game as a whole and gaming in general is not for us.

It’s that this newly-introduced mechanic is causing us physical distress and that we functioned happily for years in the same game before the distressing new mechanic was forced upon us.

Give them an inch and they’ll try to take a mile. No one is owed anything on a video game. It’s a luxury pass time for people who can swing it. If you can’t, sucks to suck. There are just certain things in life where it sucks to suck. Better to learn this sort of thing now instead of later
