Neat, it looks like full on talent trees are returning to WOW. What are your hopes for Death Knights with the return of this system?
I am hoping for less used talents to be in a position where they are not competing against each-other on “rows” where there is clearly a better pick.
I am also hoping that the talent trees can offer some distinction in weapon choice by allowing certain talents to shine with 1H vs 2H weapons. I’d like to see a more viable solution to this problem where the two weapon types arent stepping on each others toes. Could this be a solution to this class dividing issue?

NECROTIC PLAGUE...
… and personal Shadow Damage. Right now, Unholy is too far into Minion Damage.
Wuunds are… ehhhh… If Festermight returns, that would make things interesting.
I’m also hoping for Icy Citadel too.
… and GARY. FREAKING GARY. Poor guy has been laid off for far too long.

It’s always interesting to me to see how unholy is doing. I used to play it a lot but moved away from it for being too pet centric. It would be awesome if the talent tree allowed for unholy to choose if they want to be pet centric or more self centric as to the damage they dish out.

It will be nice to choose between a full on dot blight build or minion focused one. Assuming they don’t do any revamps to dks that will prevent that.

That sounds awesome. A dot / strike build for unholy would awesome. I’d definitely play unholy again if I had the option to not use a pet. That’s just me though.

I still want the pet being part of it, but in a way where I can choose which will be the primary focus of my damage. Like, say have the sludgebeltcher as part of that disease build to help out with that dot spread/enhancements.

If the druid tree previews (from looks alone) are anything to go by… it looks like they’re baking in old borrowed power things into talents, so it’s likely we could see slappy hands, necrotic plague, and some legion/bfa stuff as well.

This will make a lot of people happy, I’m sure. Ion did mention that they are trying to address that awful feeling of leaving part of your power behind during a new expansion.

I saw convoke, spirit of goldrinn, arcanic pulsar among other icons in the tree… still possible it won’t be those and it’s just icon reuse but we will see.

I don’t want to dampen anyones enthusiasm here but based on the Druid talent tree shown it looks like they just broke the current talents into multiple options and thus we aren’t really getting any new choices.
For example, today I pick feral affinity and I get rake maim and a host of passives - it looks like they just unpacked that one button into many - I was hoping for more granular changes like “15% increased crit chance” als something we don’t have now
I assume they will do class deep dives in the next several weeks/months.
Hopefully wounds are gone.

so will there be specs like frost vs unholy or is that all one big talent matrix and you can dip into whatever you want?
1 tree for class general stuff and the other for spec specific stuff. It’s no necessarily going to be frost/unholy unholy/blood mixing going on there.

Whenever you see the words “we want your choice to be important” its not actually a good thing. Look at when they said that about Covenants, they locked it for no reason at all because “we want your choice to be important.”
Could be good but it could be bad just as well.
“We wanted to make sure that the new system allows players to take combinations of spells and abilities that may not have been possible in the game before.”
That basically means you can fail with your build which im fine with, but look at the complaints with the catalyst when it was explained exactly how it was going to work. Letting people just freely build their toon how they want and expecting it to be balanced is a long shot and probably overambitious.
“Why allow us to pick Death Coil when its not good for Blood”. Or not pick up Death Strike. Both of those abilities are “class” abilities and you can either pick them or not according to how they are showing the talent trees.
I say let it happen though. Let people fail or win with their builds.

yes i like this idea. dont make every talent combo a winner…thats part of the fun is making something you can win with even if its unconventional.
Currently, there are go to talents that most people choose…but in reality any will work.

preferably i want the option to choose between wounds and necrotic plague, hoping we get dark sim, soul reaper, and strangulate as class wide baseline spells. also hoping we get raise abomb, reanimation, and gargoyle as baseline unholy spells and a cherry on top would be to make slappyhands baseline for dk or unholy.

Holinka did say in some cases class designers were asking if they could take PvP Talents and put them into the new talent trees; perhaps we’ll see Strangulate, and others, as normal talent options.
I’m optimistic for the first time since MoP and the only concern I have (other than the usual bad balance concerns) is that we get to the other end of this talent revamp only to discover we have ‘less stuff’ than we have now. I could be OK with less stuff per build if there are more viable builds total.

In a game like WoW, where so much of the experience is fast paced action, I want thinks simpler, not more complex. Most importantly, I do NOT want more buttons.
Related, As we all know, making more choices is often lame, because people who play the game a lot more than the rest of us will find the best combinations, and then we follow the sims and advice. You can think you may find some unconventional god-mode all you want, but raw numbers often don’t lie.
More choices just means more opportunities to build poorly along with more ways the devs can seriously screw up balance, which they have never had a good track record with.
But hey, I’m probably playing the wrong game for how I really want to play. I’m glad many of you are happy. I just get nervous when more complexity is added.

If your worried about poor choices there will literally be an addon that picks the “best” talents for M+, Raid, PvP as it will just create templates for every dungeon and each raid boss.
The biggest question is how much respecs will you need to do per night.
I guess what I don’t like is that bad choices exist. Just streamline it so that all choices are good depending on the content you do. There are so many dead talents.
For example, instead of frostscythe, just make it so that during remorseless winter, Killing machine cleaves.
Take out glacial advance as a talent and just make it work like the current tier works.
I guess what I’d want is instead of 3 options per row, just put 2 really good options that are either playstyle or scenario based. I feel that would allow for the choices to be stronger individually and more easy to balance.
