Dragonflight Professions

will we ever be able to re-assign spent point in profession skill trees?
does anyone have an “inside scoop” as to if we are ever going to be able to do this?

I’m not sure, because you eventually max it all out anyway. It’s just a bit too slow to do it, imo.

If they didnt do it until now, I highly doubt they will do it until end of DF.

I’d rather just have more points per week to distribute.

There really needs to be some sort of accelerated catch up.

Doesn’t seem like it.
The team there seems to be happy with professions

No and no.

No, because after like 4 months, everything is completely maxed out.

To quote one of my idols when I was, we little lad, “What you talking about Willis.”

While I have a lot of my crafters that have maxed out all of their sub-trees now, it definitely wasn’t 4 months on most of them. My last profession I still haven’t gotten to 100 has maxed out all the sub-trees and sitting at 86/100 (damn inscription).

If you max out your profession knowledge every week, you cap out after 4 or 5 months.

we will not be able to do this ever, no.

hmm…

pulls out a napkin and checks out mining, the fastest profession

455 spec points required to fill the tree

around 120 can be gained from one-time sources
(~25 skill from various first time gathering bonuses
10 skill from one-time NPC conversation
30 (I think?) from 10.0 rep rewards
45 from artisan’s guild notebooks
10 from ponzo )

leaving 325 from weekly activities

In a week you gain ~15 KP
3 from quest
8 from iridescent ore (5x 1KP + 1x 3KP)
1 from inscription (draconic knowledge book)
2 on average from other sources (elementally-charged stones, dragon shards of knowledge and the weekly forbidden reach rare drop all are potential sources, but these can’t be counted upon so I’m going to call the sum of it “2” even though a sufficiently determined person might be able to get more)
1 from darkmoon faire (well, 3 per month, which I’ll round up to 1/week)

That works out to about 22 weeks? So I guess 5 months is accurate, if you are perfectly diligent and know what you are doing from the start (took me a bit longer in practice because I fumbled around for a while at the start and then I often missed a few gains/week or even took whole weeks off just to avoid burning out).

Also, mining (alongside perhaps skinning) was the easiest profession to max out. Herbalism took me a little longer. I can’t remember the exact order I maxed out the crafting professions, but I do know that blacksmithing was by far the longest for me (unlocking that whole spec tree is a total of 800KP ).

The crafting professions generate way more weekly points than the gathering ones.

You also ignored shards of knowledge.

From what I have seen, they require more points to max too… so it’s not much of an offset (if any).

And they did mention the shards in their calculations.

i mentioned them as part of the +2. They are far too rare to be worth making a line of their own in the calculation though. I’ve seen less than one a month.

(Unless they are dropping in large numbers from content I don’t participate in?)

(And as for gathering vs crafting, I believe you’re mistaken - they have more one-time sources than gathering, but weekly, they have one extra weekly quest, an extra WO weekly for some professions and a couple of weekly treasure/mob drops, but those add up to basically the same +8 as gathering gets, even a little less for some professions)

why would you need to do this when everyone who played from the start already finished the trees months ago?

I started DF just before 10.0.7 launched and even though I did everything I could each week, I was only able to max out herbalism within the last couple weeks. I don’t necessarily mind the expansion-long grind, but realistically, I think you should be able to max out a profession within a season.

Had I done Dark moon Fair for the 1st few months then I would be 100 / 100 on all my professions. However, Inscription is the only one I have left to complete and it’s sitting at 86/100. I don’t see a lot of requests for stuff that would level it up and refuse to sit in trade channel advertising all day.

My Blacksmith is probably the worst offender for sub-trees. Think I need 185 points to max out my last tree. My Leatherworker is next only needing around 35 points. Alchemy was my 1st to max out and has 200 KP more then she has need for and the conversion rate of KP to mettle is astronomically stupid.

Completionism and sense of self-independence.

Sorry peeps, I’m the poster child for their revamp of the professions. Anything with 500+ KP isn’t meant to be maxed out. They want you to specialize in something instead of being an expert in everything. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Which would be a time sink to master everything. My 1st profession to max out 100 / 100 and all the KP was my Alchemy, and I didn’t do the KP books, and she has 200 KP wasting away. My Blacksmith which is 100 / 100 is the worse with his sub-trees needing another 185 KP to finish everything. Finally, my Inscription is 86 / 100 but has all her sub-trees maxed out and building KP up she don’t need.

Some professions have it easier than others to max out skills and or KP on sub-trees. Only thing I haven’t done is upgrade my green gathering tools to blue because I don’t know what the point would be. I don’t go out of my way to farm anymore as I have a stockpile of materials of all grades I can 3 star easily.
