Dragonflight or Diablo IV

So I have enough in my entertainment budget to get either Dragonflight or Diablo IV.

I played WoW from beta, on and off, but have been away for a year or two. Didn’t really like Shadowlands, but have heard good things about Dragonflight. Have also heard good things about Diablo IV.

Any opinions, maybe from folks who have played both?

World of Warcraft still going at $15 a month is insane value if you love this game

Depends on what you do when you play.

Dragonflight is going to be constantly updated and has a pretty reliable end-game cycle for a lot of people. Diablo 4 is amazing but once the story is done it’s just a continuous grind and difficulty climb until an expansion arrives.

Is the winner! You have to keep paying monthly with WoW.

Buy DF and make a bunch of gold and then buy WoW tokens to redeem for battle.net balance and purchase D4. I haven’t paid for a wow subscription in months and bought D4 with extra gold i’ve made. You can have both.

While I enjoy both, Dragonflight is probably a better investment.

D2 was great.

However both D4 and DF stray further from immersive world building into systems only skinner box gambling territory. And it’s only going to get worse until hobbyists can world build and compete technically with the server-architecture side of MMORPGS

D4 looks like an excellent game.

However, the term “Accelerated Battle Pass” shown as a perk for the deluxe edition has killed any anticipation I once had. Just smells too much like p2w, and the monetization fiasco with D:I didn’t help either.

DF is the better choice, for me at least.

Diablo IV wins for me. I’ve logged into WoW since I had it a few times but… I find it holds my interest far more than anything in Dragonflight has since launch.

diablo4 is hundreds/thousands of hours of grinds to get bis and has seasonal cycles, so you’ll pretty much never be like “ok i killed X, i beat the game” because there’s always going to be a harder X that requires more optimized gear

wow depends what you play wow for. some content has high replayability, other content you kinda just beat/finish and then log until it gets refreshed. you’ll get bis gear in wow much faster than bis in diablo

wow shop is more pay to win than diablo shop atm. diablo is entirely cosmetic, wow has boosts/tokens/race/faction changes

i consider wow a significantly more “competitive game where someone can win over someone else” than diablo, where there are no damage meters and no gladiator/hall of fame/keystone hero equivalent yet anyway (i do hope they’ll add leaderboards and exclusive transmogs for dungeons and stuff like that though)

It really depends on your preferred game style. WoW and Diablo are very different games so it’s more what you feel like playing.

I have played both and I would recommend WoW. Diablo 4 is very fun the first few days but it clearly needs a lot of love. I think it would be best to wait on it because it needs a lot of mechanical improvement. The campaign of the game is FANTASTIC though. The design and world is beautiful. Diablo 4 is very good, but if you’re someone like me who needs a huge time sink… WoW is the easier choice.

D4’s grind feels waaaay to repetitive and boring.

They are blizzard games. With them you get the bait and switch. I’d take up ant farming it’s more fun than what blizz will do to them over any period of time. And less expensive.

Honestly it depends on what you are looking for. They’re both very similar but WoW is unsurprisingly more social in its requirements than D4 is.

They’re both inferior games to other games on the market though.

Underneath all of the bugs and performance issues people are experiencing, along with Blizzard’s “balancing” of various classes, Diablo 4 is a pretty fun game. But the issues…good lord, the issues. If I were to make a recommendation, I’d probably say wait on picking that one up. I bought it months ago, but personally, I will wait a bit before hopping back into that. They need to get their house in order.

Diablo 4. WoW is dead, all versions. They don’t even try and fix bugs anymore. I would recommend classic era but there will likely be fresh a few months from now so why waste your time?

Diablo 4 is their main game now and where all the budget is. Put your money there. This game is 20 years old and DF is so bad.

D4 has some potential but I do not see how seasons will work at this current time. The only thing I think will save seasons is with the season pass granting some renown. I can see me doing the first season but after that meh. Who wants to endlessly unlock dungeons, renown, etc. before really grinding it out to play.

Token prices are ridiculous right now though, because everyone else is doing this too. I don’t even have DF but I’m not getting it till I can buy balance with gold and that won’t happen until token prices come back down to earth.

Haven’t played a Diablo game.
I will say, if you buy Dragonflight you can make gold to buy Diablo. If you don’t need to play it right now and let things simmer, you can take your time with DF and get D:IV without spending an additional real cent.
