Professions are slow and not rewarding for the time spent. End game game play is annoying. Raid’s are better than Shadowlands, but M+ is more annoying than fun. Just way too much going on and it’s poorly telegraphed and inconsistently designed.
I don’t think those million-health-mini-raid-boss-like rares, world events that required a raid group to success are “more accessible”, comparing to what we had in previous expansions.
The game stinks the company stinks people are done with blizzard. I bought this with gold and called it dragonflop long before it released and figured I would enjoy watching it swirl the bowl.
BFA and the issues with Shadowlands and Blizzard’s other controversies didn’t help matters. If I recall Bellular Gaming did a video a month or two after Dragonflight came out going over the underwhelming sales of the game because Blizzard was pushing incentives early. Word of mouth may have also brought back some players slowly over time but many have moved on.
Despite Dragonflight being a good expansion I think the reputational damage they’ve suffered has impacted them negatively to some extent but long time veterans of the game are unlikely to quit anytime soon.
I’ve been playing since the release of WoW. I still play with a group players who I’ve known from Vanilla who stopped playing and came back years later but were all older. WoW is an older game with an older player base. It’s not really attracting new players.
In terms of content for future expansions what is really left? Denathrius is still alive maybe he becomes the new leader of what remains of the Burning Legion? Void Lords and Azshara are also still out there but as the void lords created the old gods and Azshara went into the void that would likely all be in a single expansion. That’s two expansions right there. I think Nixxiom himself estimated WoW maybe has three expansions assuming blizzard doesn’t go back to bad habits.
WoW is old and at some point Blizzard is going to make it free to play and stick it in maintenance mode and that’s coming sooner than later. Think about the cost it takes to develop and balance an expansion before and after a release. The revenue isn’t what it use to be.
Diablo Immortal did prove one thing…People do have phones and there willing to spend money. They made $500 million after 5 months of release.
What I’m looking forward to is WoW 2… well I can hope. Although I think it’s going to have to 500 to 1000 years into the future. A completely redesigned combat system. Black Desert online is considered by many to have the best combat system, Imagine WoW but with Elden Ring level of graphics and combat. Something needs to be done about Spellcasters in general. I keep thinking of the Sorceress in Lost Ark.
Ratings are subjective, most rating are out like 2 weeks after the game comes out when the content is fresh and people are excited, game changes and the ratings are still there lol
This expansion was tailored to fulfill the wishlists of the 3-pillar types. They are here for it and of course are going to say how great this expac is. The players who left or never came back simply aren’t being represented.
As much as the 3-pillar types hate new features and alternative content, it is things such as new features and alternative content that actually boost box sales.
Retention this expansion has actually been great. We started with a smaller base, but players have been sticking around because the content keeps coming and alts can jump right in.
Pandaria lost 2.5 million subs during the expansion, yet the Panda apologists still make their awful and poorly thought out excuses.
Now they have their repeat raid / M+ or die expansion with nothing for casuals, and what happens? They blame dragons. Can´t just accept that their idea of perfect WoW is just bad.
People got tired of WoW and all the bad expansions and the state of Blizzard, I have many friends that quit cause they genuinely feel bad when they support this company (which I do somewhat but not even close to them)
It’s got nothing to do with the expansion itself, it has everything to do with the fact that in my state at least, there’s a cost of living crisis atm, I’m still on the fence on whether to unsub or not.
The expansion is a good expansion, unfortunately the economy in 2023 is just crap…
I mean… I didn’t quit. But I view DF miles better than WoD and SL - and at the same time much worse than all the other expansions. It’s alright and WoW is in a better spot than it was during SL, but it’s still not an S tier expansion.
The writing is still shallow, doesn’t make much sense from time to time and there are no stakes. I’ve been a lore enthusiast for many years, but this time it feels like I’m just playing some meaningless content without much story attached to it.
DF also had TONS of major bugs and unfinished stuff, in the first weeks of release and in 10.1. Much more than any other expansion. The beta was cut way too short in the middle of development and QA couldn’t keep up. M+ has been badly balanced and it shows again in 10.1, where a bit of balancing is finally coming after half of the season is already over.
A lot of AH play has come to a halt after the merge for people who are not botting and goldmaking has shifted more to equipment crafting, which probably also contributed to some goldmaking-players staying away.
Plus healing feels really weird right now, it’s not that fun anymore.
DF isn’t really bad, but also not phenomenal. For me it’s just forgetful fluff with sloppy development, weird design choices (rare lockout in Zaralek for example) and unspectacular PvE content that lacks any balancing. SL really managed to activate more critical thinking in a lot of players, so there wasn’t any hype train anyway.
As a new player coming in to WoW during DF, i dont have the experience from past expansions. Season 1 DF was by far better than season 2 has been. I main healer and have one of each, except a pally heal. Healing from season 1 to season 2 is just bad. Sure they took out thundering, yet they made affixes that group rely on healers to focus while dpsing and keeping everyone alive. PUG groups are just bad, and you dont get any sort of punishment for leaving a Mythic Key which makes wanting to run mythics undesirable. The crest system is just bad. You can litterally max a character within a week and until next season you just collect crests, which at this point a lot of ppl have 100"s of crests, aspect, wyrm and drake. The server clusters are horrible, you get into a “beginner” realm amd its borderline dead. Guild activity is non exsistent due to Pug groups. DF would have been a fantastic expansion, but it seems with the role out of season two, blizzard simply put more time and effort with D4 release. Which is absolutely boring. The Ball was dropped, and a mega dungeon that drops 421 gear isnt going to change much.
