Dragonflight has proven that people are not leaving because of a lack of content!

Good Morning/Afternoon/Night

Disclaimer: This is an anecdotal view of things!

I’ve been playing WoW since 2010 and could be called a Wrath-baby, and despite playing for the last 13 years, I still love this game. Although Shadowlands almost made me quit for good, the devs’ new approach regarding the systems/chores in 9.2 gave me a spark of hope, and Dragonflight content-wise is great, but I think the gameplay has become too complex for most people.

We have too many spells/buffs/debuffs/cooldowns/crowd controls/addons that most people can’t handle, and while I keep trying to improve to get the stuff I want, I also noticed that I don’t enjoy playing WoW anymore as I once did, I still raid but feels like a job, I do M+ but regardless if I finish it on time or not I still feel miserable.

I don’t enjoy the amount of HK mechanics in Raids/DG’s we have these days, the bloated rotations, nor the convoluted PVP design, and I only noticed how bad the gameplay has become after watching people playing Classic/TBCC/WOTLKC and how simple things used to be.

So…
What happened?
Why did we keep pushing the limits?
How much harder this game will become?
If you’re a new player, are you happy with Retail gameplay?

It’s interesting, because while the rotations are more robust/complicated/bloated, somehow the fights are easier. Not simpler; I think the fights actually have way more mechanics. But it all somehow works out to face rolling everything. That combination, many steps but attention barely needed, makes it feel a bit like busywork.

Tonight, I ran 3 complete raids, one heroic dungeon, and one M+10. How is that possible? A raid used to take an entire week to clear, and now we’re doing multiple a night. The pacing is really off.

It has…

We have excessive button bloat.

For example on a priest you got Dispell and Purify, most players macro these together to save on bar space since Dispell only works on Harm targets and Purify only works on Help targets. Plenty of classes have things like this that could be put into one spell.

Many classes have way to many spells to cast for single target rotation. Enhance shaman I love but OMG to many buttons. Why cant Frost Shock just be a snare?? One of the worst offenders I have played is Affliction Warlock. Like OMG there are 10 spells to cast just for Single Target rotation. Now, on one hand this would be cool and all. But they all just about do the same thing, just a freaking DoT… Nothing special.

The playerbase caused this.

If normal/heroic and max rewards keys arn’t full cleared and puggable week 2 while getting full tier and bis trinkets it’s a “time gate” and “developed to waste our time”.

A big annoyance is how there are so many micro buffs that work together to create a larger dmg profile. It can take a while for players to figure all these things out. Which often confuses new players as they dont understand why they cant perform. Then when you cant perform, you feel bad and you leave the game.

Dont even get me started about these half ast talent trees. Talent trees should improve or change how talents perform or work. Not give or take away talents. There should be a set of base talents that a spec gets, then the talent tree should be used to change them to the players taste. But Blizzard cant understand this and instead just have a bunch of crap that gives micro buffs and makes players choose between being good at ST or only good at AoE. Its just a bad design…

the lore, Arthas, Jailer, Gul’dan, Deathwing and Warlords are dead.

The Legion it is dismantled, what it’s come does not arrive, and the titans seek to be the new villains.

Here the problem we are playing an RPG with history and lore, it is not only about the world and the gameplay, and with the last of Warcarft 3 and the RTS trilogy finished, there is nothing to do to continue the adventure.

Blizzard if it needs to be something new and daring, enough of your censorship and agenda, it is of no use to you, we already know what they are.

Baldurs Gate taught that the game industry and its community is full of hypocrites, here is not the agenda, here is not what is daring, they only care about money, and Blizzard must be what it was in the 90’s with cowboys in space, violence excessive, Rock N’ Roll and sensuality and beauty in women as it is now in JRPG’s.

As long as it continues with its agenda and censorship, it will not attract a new community, Blizzard needs to think better, and no, it is not a campaign with a sensual Megan Fox or Lilith statuettes in a video game where the main name has already died, that is, the same Diablo, it’s like Zelda knowing you’re playing Link, or Metroid knowing you’re playing not-bikini Samus and the Metroids are extinct.

unfortunately I am not a new player even though I played WotLK on pirated servers, thanks to them I got to Legion with more experience, but Legion was a new WoW experience for new players that gave something to get excited about in the MMO Blizzard, which DF is not giving that fund like new without speaking that is only MoP or Legion, that is, themselves as their own expansion.

We have choice now, and can make our own unique rotations that suit our style and needs. People have to get out of the mindset that you have to use every ability you have.

I don’t want to go back to cookie cutter builds where we were all the same due to lack of choice.

What “content” are you even referring to though? What does DF have more of than other expansions really? It’s a bunch of longer, overdesigned, annoying, and convoluted versions of old stuff.

  • Professions? NURP! ADDED TALENTS, GRINDS, BOE SELF MATS, RNG, and RANKS TO ITEMS BOIII!!
  • Flying? NURP! DRAGY RIDIN BOIII!
  • Reputations that took maybe 2-3 weeks of reasonable questing and grinding to complete? NURP! RENOWN BOIIII! NOW YOU CAN DO THE SAME CRAP ALL XPAC AND MAYBE FINISH!
  • New patches? YURP? NOW INSTEAD OF RELEASING A FULLY FLESHED OUT PATCH WE GIVE IT IN MINI PATCHES WITH EVENETS THAT ARE ALL SIMILAR, FOMO BASED, AND PRETTY MUCH REWARD THE SAME CRAP ALL SPACED OUT TO KEEP YOU SUBBED FARMING USELESS BS :)!

I just don’t think all of the “content” they are throwing at us is any good… It’s still the same M+/Raid/PvP IMO. With this season (I didn’t play S1 so I don’t know) being particularly hated due to healing nerfs through damage/HP pool reworks, some hated ghost affixes, gated PvP rankings?, larger class/spec performance divides than probably any other point in WoW history, and burnout from constant pointless trickle fed grind/reward systems.

There was a thread a few weeks ago about how there was too much to do now. Too many, too frequent content patches, each with new stuff to get, blah blah blah.

They’re coming so rapidly that there isn’t time to finish the previous one. Not unless you play obsessively.

I used to go after all the collectibles, pets, toys, mounts… there’s so much these days that I just stopped bothering. It was overwhelming.

The frequent content patches are turning people off. Whether the people getting dejected are fewer or greater than the number it appeals to… who knows.

You might not like hearing it, but it’s because Blizzard keeps making the easy modes easier and easier. A +10 is easier than it used to be (we don’t even have seasonal affixes anymore). A normal or heroic raid is easier than it used to be. (Mythic is still very challenging, though.)

And this season’s ilvl upgrades skyrocketed everyone to OP status and made the faceroll stuff even more faceroll. People got to end-of-patch power levels in less than a month, with predictable results.

Technically speaking Samus is now the Metroid. Both in DNA and title (Metroid being the Chozo word for Ultimate Warrior)

See, here you and I disagree. Why would a large and often interesting range of choices for how to play character make people leave? And why would you feel ‘miserable’ about that?

I often wonder, what exactly is it that people who make this complaint want. Do you want fewer abilities? Do you want there to be less choice rather than more? Do you want some simplistic play style that would hark back to Classic with just half a dozen abilities and a whole bunch of passives?

I have been playing slightly longer than you, and aside from the degree of experimentation and research with regard to talents, I have had no problem dealing with the majority of my classes. My Hunter performs much as it always did, so does my mage, my warlock and so on. And I’m not exactly a spritely youngster.

The game has problems, undoubtedly, but the things you mention I don’t believe are why people are leaving the game.

There is nothing wrong with them making content for the casual player base as long as it doesnt take away from the more hardcore player base. Its always been super hard for Blizzard to balance both and honestly I think they are doing a really good job this expansion. IMHO more the better. Its there if you want to do it and optional if you dont. So I cant see an issue with their content patches.

As far as professions. WoW even with the updated profession system still has the most dumb down crafting system of any MMO I have ever played. The ONLY downside to it is that its not evergreen and next expansion we will have to learn and level all new things up again.

As far a reputations, again completely optional. But I do like that you can actually complete them. I still never got all my Shadowlands stuff completed. The grind was way to slow.

If people aren’t having fun then they won’t play.

You can only recycle the same slop from previous expansions before people start noticing.

I mean your right in a way.

It’s not the devs fault that you bought cod and refuse to go past the main menu because you don’t like gun games.

I still can handle the bloated rotations, but I’ve played WoW for 13 years, that’s my point.

I don’t see new players enjoying retail as much as they do playing a 20-year version of the same game.

Why do you think the average “new player” is a braindead potato that can’t handle anything other than spamming frostbolt?

I don’t know.

What I know is that DF has lots of content, and yet I see more people interested in playing Classic versions, that have nothing new.

wow has some of the most simplistic rotations for mmo

So your anecdote is cancelled by my anecdote that disagrees with you.

Stop making claims you can’t back up, as much as people try to piece together the pie, blizzard doesn’t give us all the slices.

Then maybe you could argue from a place that people could have a discussion instead of looking like a fool.

I just wanna know what people think about it.

I always thought that WoW’s biggest problem was content cadence since the last time we had a large amount of content (Legion), the game was booming, so I thought that DF would perform the same way, but it doesn’t seem to be the case.
