Dragonflight and Old-school Flying

Will we be able to get our old normal flying in Dragonflight at max lvl? The reason I ask - is I suck at Dragon Riding. I’m an old dog (63) and am no longer able to learn all of the new tricks.

I personally see myself limited in this upcoming expansion as I have no interest in Dragon flying at all. So, looks like I will be running around a lot and or just not doing a lot of the new expansion just like I haven’t been in Shadowlands content for about 3 months now. I hit 50 on a new alternate and that is the last time I touch them now.

I not good at that my self just fly slow and do the best you can

Rumor has it that they will eventually unlock regular flying in DF zones.

No, it’ll be more later into the expansion. Dragon riding is the main stay for the first half if not more of the expan sion.

No, you will not be getting regular flying in Dragonflight when you reach max level.

They have said it will not be added until later in the expansion.

Current estimate is 10.1 or 10.2

No idea how I’ll adapt to the mechanics of dragon riding. I could suck at it or be adequate. I just don’t care for big clunky mounts…and that’s you’re only choice. Big, clunky proto-drakes.

New isn’t always better. It’s not even always good. And considering this is Blizz, new features are often hated until drastic changes have been made. People have legit reasons to be concerned.

Have you even tried it? It’s fun. It has its flaws, of course, but it’s really fun!

Ok so I didn’t see the link when I first replied… Thanks for confirming that he has clarified something.

That being said I don’t trust Blizzard enough to not ‘Change their minds’, so until a more concrete date or tier or date… (something concrete) is announced I’m staying out of DF personally.

I’m a casual, I admit that… so they can casually wait for my money too.

Most of us can’t try it now and won’t have the chance without buying the expansion. Being that this is a huge part of what’s new and something people are going to need to use, if someone doesn’t like it that’s a waste.

Since we won’t be able to actually play with it first, best we can do is set our expectations based on Blizz usual performance.

Fun is subjective. Folks that enjoy flight sims probably love the idea. I personally think it sounds great for the racing events, but dreadful for just poking around/farming, etc.

Or, you can watch the many videos to get a decent metric on how it functions. I haven’t really progressed far enough with it to get max level everything on it, but it is available day 1 to do.

I don’t like flight sims and it’s still fun.

Meaning, you can’t just casually hover and stroll to the next node. You actually have to plan your flight path. Alls I’m saying is don’t knock it until you tried it.

Eh, that’s not really going to tell me how it feels/how hard it is.

Who thinks making the chores harder is more fun?

I’d like to but no beta.

If it’s such a superior system and suca a blast to use, there’s no reason not to allow regular flying at launch too. It’s still going to be a massive handicap being slower on a large map. Surely Blizz can’t be worried that people would not choose DR, right?

pfft…what a mess…no thanks…I don’t have the time to mess around planning my every move in game…I just wanna play the game…just play…my way…not every one else’ way…
what stinks is they are ‘forcing’ us to try it, if we want to progress thru the xpac…those of us who are older, with ‘issues’, do not enjoy forced systems…I pay to play the game, my way

Indeed. Thinking something new is always better is a fallacy. Infact it even has a name: ‘Argumentum Ad Novitatem’.

I wonder how much time you have until somebody posts a trite tropy post like … "BUT BUT-- MUH SUBJECTIVE FUUUUUUUUUN!!! :sob: " thinking it’s an actual substantive argument against any disagreements or concerns there be had or just be disingenuous for the sake of it.

Op, right on que.

That’s not always a good way to get a decent metric on how it functions. Especially when it comes to video games. I can list off a few examples, but the point being, watching isn’t the same as playing it.

People worry about the objective usefulness and less about the subjective fun that’s being pushed as an agenda. I mean you’re basically confirming to her that it’s less useful then regular flying.

But anybody hyping it up and saying it looks fun before they get to try it is perfectly fine with you?..

“Later in the expansion” is all they have said. I believe that will not be until much later after all of Dragon riding is unlocked.

I too thought Dragonflying would be much easier. I’ve practiced about 4 hours and can’t seem to keep enough momentum to reach some of the quest turn-ins :frowning:

They say practice makes perfect, but come on I don’t want to spend hours “practicing” so that I can level up my ability. I do like the ability and it is fun, but the recharge rate needs to be more forgiving at least initially. I get up and dive straight down but come too close to the ground before I generate enough momentum to go up again. I do make sure I jump from as high as a location I am able to reach, but still…

I even watched Soulsobreesy’s youtube video, but that is from the perspective of a dragonrider on what appears to be maxxed ability, so I can’t duplicate his advice.
