one of the best decisions the devs ever made in WoW was to give up on making every profession something that could potentially make money and also have fun toys. Engineering is just a ‘fun toys’/‘useful toys’ profession and man it has not missed in many expansions.
And I am so much happier just making every character an engineer than trying to make them all do different things.
Yes, we will be able to craft mythic level gear. But it will be equivalent to gear the first bosses drop. The VERY best will be 3 ilvls higher than that. This is good news for casuals like me who want something to work towards eventually
Interesting! Lord Sinensus is the first green dragon to take a gnome visage (second datamined green dragon with a gnome visage is Rebkinera). As a dragon who operates a tea factory and thinks of tea brewing as tea engineering, this visage makes sense. His name is also the species name of the tea plant, with spelling slightly altered to match green dragon naming convention. It looks like his tea has sleep-inducing properties, tying in to his flight’s connection to druidism and the Dream. Another possible hint toward gnome druids in the future? I also just noticed that the icon for the resto druid spell Flourish is a gnome (I think) surrounded by leaves and flowers.
So apparently, the Refti are Titanforged who were crafted in the image of Dragons (found by someone on the Wowhead Discord server) : https://zupimages.net/viewer.php?id=22/38/16qm.png
Haven’t found anything new in that regard, but I mean there was that dialogue according to which some Refti were “sent overseas”, so I guess there’s little doubt that the Sethrak are related to them
I personally still think it’s rig reuse, the only Refti we find outside of the dragon isles are in Uldaman, and the Refti has a very different head from the sethrak.
I personally think it would be weird if they mutated into another different reptile that they also conveniently found a loa of, when becoming flesh, instead of just remaining drakonids.
I agree with you. With that said I can easily see the story being that the Refti befriended Sethraliss, who then used her energy to try and help them as they succumbed to the Curse of Flesh and inadvertently made the Sethrak.
There are points to be made for and against the connection.
The points for relate to Uldir and how that is a titan facility. We see Refti in Uldaman, so it might be possible to see them in Uldir as well. The curse of Flesh can also have interesting effects on the titanforged. For the Vrykul mainly living in Northrend and Trisfal Glades, it caused their children to become small and weak in comparison. And this was a permanent change. Meanwhile the vrykul on the broken isles were not affected. As clearly seen in Legion given that we have a family tree for GOD KING SKOOOOOOOOOVALD!!! ranging from his father, mother, brothers, son and daughter. All Vrykul and did not go into hibernation. Unlike their Northrend cousins. Whether or not Odyn might have did something to counteract the mutation or the mutation never accorded for the Stormheim Vrykul, we don’t know. Sethreliss most likely knew about G’huun and what the seals were created for. As she died trying to prevent Mythrax from destroying one. Although she took Mythrax with her, the C’thraxx managed to destroy the Vol’dun seal. So it could be that a group of Refti were sent to support her as well. We know Freya went around and befriended nearly, if not all of the Wild Gods during her travels.
Then there is the argument that it simply could be blizzard reusing the skeleton. Something I used when discussions about a possible connection between the Gorm and G’huun were made early into shadowlands.
Uldaman was heavily expanded and altered by Tyr, the creator of the Refti and benefactor of the Dragons. Which could explain why there’s some Refti there, since the Refti’s goal are to aid the dragons, I see little reason from what we know that there would be any near Uldir since it or Zandalar at large does not have a connection to dragons or Tyr from what we know,
This would be the first time there’s any large change in the appearance for a titanforged by the curse of flesh. The Mogu look essentially the same, same for the dwarves, gnomes, etc. The only race that actually “changed” significantly are the Vrykul into humans, and even then they didn’t change any features outside of size and thus strength really, if you scaled down a Vrykul to a human size then it would be almost impossible to tell the difference.
The Sethrak, on the other hand, has no horns, and the Refti has no hoods or rattly tails, instead, they have more dragon-like tails.
It would be the first instance of such a change.
Also from what we’ve seen the Sethrak and Refti naming conventions are not the same or overlapping as for this post.
The naming conventions for Titanforged and their descendants usually are close or have some overlap, example Vrykul using almost all norse names while humans use norse names as well as other. The mogu straight up didn’t change, same with Tol’vir, the earthen and dwarves are hard since not too many named ones, but the few we have also share common themes like ore, metal, and such.
Gnomes and mechagnomes also share a lot thematically since they use engineering and tech words in their names.
As you can see for most titanforged races the naming conventions are related and you could in most cases even swap the name to one of their descendants/ancestors and it would not stand out. This is not the case with the sethrak and Refti.
Sethrak names Vorrik, Sulthis, Korthek, Hessir, Issik.
Refti: Zuttiki, Talikka and Talondras. The last one is closer to following dragon naming conventions but still.
Just found out about this interesting NPC. He’s a Gronnling with the title <Sabellian’s Servant> in the Obsidian Throne, in the Waking Shores : https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Gulchak
That means that Sabellian’s Black Dragonflight has probably subjugated some of the Breakers from Blade’s Edge. Also, if I’m not mistaken, this is the first time ever we see a MU Gronnling
There’s no excuse not to make this also possible for Shadowlands. It would be immensely helpful for transmog locked behind things like Kyrian’s Path of Ascension.
