Hi all! I’m super hyped for the upcoming expansion, and have been greatly enjoying the current flurry of news coming out of the alpha for Dragonflight. Let’s talk Dragonflight alchemy!
I’ve always loved the fantasy of alchemy, but outside of flasks and combat potions the relevance of alchemy has been very slim. Most potions you craft just because you have the mats and are trying to boost your skill. In DF, there are some interesting potions and effects, but one stood out to me: Bottle of Putrescence, which deals damage to nearby enemies over 10 seconds.
Currently it has no CD, but presumably this will be changed. What I’m afraid of is that it will be tuned like the dynamite in Engineering - very long CD relative to its value such that no one ever uses them. In addition, I’m worried they will share a CD with battle potions or invisibility potions, making them useless in m+. I think it would really contribute to the fantasy of the alchemist to be able to weave potions into your rotation, even if on a 1 or 2 min cd (not shared with battle potions!). Give it some cool putrid visual. Would be amazing.
Lastly, I love the idea of potions that are “just for fun”, with cooky effects, and would love to see more of them. An array of potions that just do cosmetic things would be amazing - “Drink to grow an extra head” or “Drink to look like a handsome prince”, etc. Silly things add to the fun and fantasy of alchemy.
Anyway, would love to hear your thoughts, especially if you have ideas for fun/silly potions! Is adding potions to your rotation too much? Would it create balancing issues? Let me know what you think!
