Dragonflight Alchemy is a horrible experience

Logon after reset.

99/100 skill. Plenty of unlearned recipes remain.

Basic Phial Experiment, for which I am specialized in Phial Discovery.

Blown up on second attempt.

“Thanks for playing, see you in 4 hours.”

Great system.

I’m 65 with inscription and don’t see any way to skill currently…
And I’m not even complaining

What is worse is they hired someone to specifically work on professions :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Edit; I like the idea of how professions are but this is just a bit of a mess in my honest opinion and not fun at all.

If you have not done the Darkmoon faire head over there and get your last alchemy point + some knowledge you can apply to your specialty.

Honestly, I don’t hate the overhaul. I think it’s really great that you cant rush to be great at everything, you have to pick and choose what you are great at first and the other things take time. It’s good for crafters to have differentiation, its kind of fun for guildies to coordinate which alchemist will do pots and which will do phials, etc. It’s even good for Blizz creating artificial scarcity to drive up costs and sell tokens for their bottom line, and tokens are good for people who don’t pay to play. It’s good.

But this blowing up in the first 5 seconds after reset only to be forced into a 4+ hour cooldown is a horrible experience.

@strawberries, tyvm, I did do the darkmoon stuff, the experiment is to learn the recipes I’m missing and not specifically to get that last skill point.

What prices will go up though :person_shrugging:

Yes that is stupid IMO.

I don’t also but it ain’t great. It’s a start though.

Not in one so can only imagine.

All of them? If everything requires a specialization, then instead of every leatherwork being able to make every piece of gear, suddenly only a third of them can make leather well and a third of them can make mail well and a third of them can make embellished gear well, extrapolate the same situation across every profession that’s applicable. Specialization gates effectively reduce the supply of quality goods.

Hey I got blown up 4 times in a row with lots of unlearned phials. RNG giveth and RNG Taketh away.

I don’t see that happening with anything consumable related.
And gear wise, if people don’t undercut like crazy, I doubt those prices will go up anytime soon. I just don’t agree from what I’ve seen that prices for ‘‘all of them’’ will go up.

Consumables → supply far outweighs demand.
Gear-> top end can only be sold through crafting orders it seems.

The rest is just gonna be people putting items for whatever lower price so …

I should do this, every expansion people recommend this and every expansion I think I should but never do.

67/100 here
Lots of explosions yet to come :face_with_thermometer:

I’m not saying prices will go up, I’m saying they are higher than they would have been under the old system.

Price over the course of the expansion and even this week will almost always come down because more people are getting 70 and doing their professions and gathering, all of which raises supplies and lowers prices. Prices for materials are hardly ever higher than they are the first week of the expansion.

That doesn’t change the point though: The prices are much higher than they would have been under the old system because the supply is much lower than it would have been under the old system. You can only make the “best quality” of about 1/3rd of your profession right now, so supply is lower than it would have been had we still been able to make everything at the best quality. Even if every Alchemist from BFA played in DF, there would still be less max quality potions than in BFA because some people would spec Phials and some Transmute and only a fraction of their Herbalists would have rank 3 Herb refinement.

The difference between a low quality item and a high quality item of the same type is massive. Gold quality herbs, potions and gear are very expensive. The stuff thats rapidly getting cheaper on the AH is mostly bronze quality gear. We also have largely lost herbing/mining bots and multiboxers because they can’t yet handle dragonriding.

Potion price is in a weird place because we really shouldn’t have much demand until raid and M+ open.

I’m not sure to be honest, things were much higher priced pre region wide change for me at the beginning of an expansion than now no matter how you twist it because while I get what you are writing, I’m not seeing it personally in-game for me but at this point it’s best to just agree to disagree.

Yea ima be honest this system is horrid. Everything else imo is fine, it’s just this stupid cooldown. Is there honestly any good explanation for why this is a mechanic? I’ll take anything at this point. Make something up if you have to but I’m not sold that this is fun or engaging.

There isn’t any for Alchemy, like ever.

I think it would feel better as a 1-2 hr cooldown, and Liquid Courage procs should be increased by like 20%.

I wanted to see how DF Alchemy would go, but seeing this makes me wanna put it off indefinitely

I got it essentially maxed but it was god awful. Still got a few recipes to go but jesus christ man this is unbearable.

I agree. At this point my alchemist gets 30 seconds of experiments at best, then another 4 hours before I can try again. About to just drop alchemy altogether if it stays and the RNG seems to tilt in favor of failure, even with many points in experimentation specialization.
