Instead of us trading in 10 skill points for Mettle can we trade them in for a Shard of Knowledge ? Would make bringing up a new profession easier also making them account bound would be awesome.

Yep, have been able to since 10.1.5. Just look for the apprentice crafter/gatherer near the order place
