Sure, it’s not like I disagree. I never said their idea was great but it is what it is and at this point it’s best to try to see how it feels, and or bring up these issues in a large amount so they address it.
Yup and they’ve admitted to being stubborn etc iirc.
That unfortunately is as you said a dev issue and a nagging issue that this team has.
In all likelihood this will be 10.0 only. It will not be a part of the next expansion, which will have no flight, just really annoying terrain obstacles everywhere.
It doesn’t matter to you. If they removed everything I don’t do and I said there was no reason to complain if your content got seriously nerfed to cater to people like me because what you want doesn’t matter, you’d be outraged.
What they should have done was to leave all utility mounts untouched, and allow people to buy mount equipment to apply to individual mounts for each character.
The ones we have up until now have grown weaker over time due to the easy of flying around in the thicker air at or near ground level, their muscles have weakened and they no longer have the raw horsepower to keep themselves up in the thinner air.
Makes sense, you could be a bodybuilder benching 800 lbs, but take a year off and you’ll be lucky to crank half that. muscle mass is very much a “use it or lose it” thing.
This is not at all equal to dragons we’ve been flying on all this time. You wanna make up fanon about it, that’s cool. I’m sure fanfiction sites would love it.
I don’t need the excuses for another bad system being forced on me.
Oh I’m not arguing FOR pathfinder, I agree, it’s annoying. I was just giving an example of how they could do something a bit less annoying that atleast could make a bit of sense.
Like we start the questline for the saddle at starting level, and as we level we work on the quest and by the time we hit max, the quest chain is done and we can fly right away.
They have an ability to make it less annoying without the lore too. Just make dragon mounts so they are able to fly in the Isles. They didn’t have to start the war on flying.
I think what happened is that they inadvertently made flight too powerful as a side effect of cutting costs. In TBC the easiest and cheapest way to add “flight” was to make your character swim in the air while mounted, so that’s what they did.
It was effectively noclip which at the time, wasn’t so bad because flight speeds were limited to 60% for the masses and 280% for those who could afford it. But then they bumped up flight speeds followed by the cost of training being trivialized, resulting in everybody having 310% speed noclip.
It doesn’t take a game designer to see how much of a pain in the rear that becomes. Anything you put out in the world doesn’t matter at all as soon as the player trains flight. It all just vanishes and the highest level most dangerous zone in the game becomes the functional equivalent of Northshire. The devs expressed this sentiment as far back as Cataclysm.
So understandably, they’ve been trying to find ways to put that genie back in the lamp. Pathfinder didn’t work so they’re trying other things.
We’ll see. I don’t hate most of the stuff they showed. But I’m apprehensive about this. Knowing what they’ve done in the past. The ball is definitely in their court. Hopefully they serve.
