Dragon Lore Help

So, I am trying to figure out a few things, and was hoping you guys could help me out.

  1. After Deathwing, did the Dragon Aspects actually lose their Aspect Powers, or did they just become infertile?
  2. Why in a fantasy world such as WoW, would you ever want to remove Dragons from it by making them infertile?
  3. Ysera is in Ardenweald, where is Deathwing? Is he sill a seed? I mean, isn’t he before the drought and all that?

Any help or theory’s would be wonderful.

Yes.

Dragon lore is bad in WoW.

Ysera wasn’t naturally a seed. Winter Queen permanently gave up some of her essence to convert Ysera to be able to work with the seed system.

  1. Yes. Not only that, but their entire respective Dragonflights were massively depowered. They can still do some things related to their specialties, but nowhere near what they once could.

  2. The writers at the time were pushing the Age of Mortals, where the mortal races would takeover as the wardens of the world and the immortal beings would fade away. Nothing ever came of that though except for the dragons themselves getting BTFO. Loa, Wild Gods, etc. are all better than ever.

  3. Elune personally stepped in and sent Ysera to Ardenweald. It’s not clear if she would’ve gone there naturally via the Arbiter. Even if she had, it would’ve been because she was the Aspect of Nature. Maybe Alexstrasza would also go there, but I don’t see Deathwing, Malygos or Nozdormu getting in.

Both.

“Age of Mortals.” It ranks up there with such hits as, “Draenor is Free,” and, “I will never Serve,” as far as tone-deaf/bad story beats.

Ysera got plunked down in Ardenweald because of Elune. I don’t think she interceded for Deathwing. Honestly, I’m surprised he isn’t flapping somewhere around the Maw.

I think I might need some clarification on this. As far as I know Ysera was a seed. Almost the entire campaign was us helping the seed. To which at the end, the Winter Queen stepped in and saved her. But she was a seed before that.

Well, Prymal, your question in the first post already answered itself: If Ysera was intended to naturally be a seed, why do we see zero other Azerothian dragons in the zone?

Makes sense, I will buy that. However, the Winter Queen was surprised that Ysera was there, so it just seemed to me that she had nothing to do with making her a seed in the first place. After all she did say something on the lines of “this is of my sister, why did you bring it here”.

Somewhere in the recent lore book it states that WQ sacrificed a portion of herself permanently for Ysera. That’s all I know.
:man_shrugging:

I was too and in truth, I was surprised that they didn’t use Deathwing, Heyla, or another known old foe as the WQ for the Maw. Though I also question if Deathwing would end up in the Shadowlands or if having all those void/old gods essence infused in it at the end of the raid would cause him to go where other void creates such as the old gods go upon death.

Canonically Deathwings soul was destroyed, completely devoured by the Old Gods. At least that’s what the raid journal entry has to say about it:

A warped mass of molten hatred and unfathomable power, this formless, mindless horror cannot be stopped. Whatever was left of Neltharion the Earth-Warder is long gone, his mind and soul corrupted and devoured by his Old God masters. All this monstrous being desires is destruction, annihilation, and the end of all things.

If that means he ceased to exist when the Dragon Soul obliterated his final form or if that means some version of him is still out there somewhere in the belly of a Void Lord remains to be seen.

  1. It flip flops depending on Blizzard’s mood
  2. Blizzard is dumb and can’t write
  3. Ysera is in Ardenweald because her connection to nature through the dream makes her a sort of exception and lets her be considered a wild god. Deathwing is probably somewhere else in the Shadowlands.

Deathwing was wiped out from every reality and timeline when we used the Dragonsoul on him. He likely doesn’t exist in death either.

Dragons can still breed just not aspect flights. So Netherdragons/Twilight/Stormdragons/proto ect… can still lay eggs. There is a chance that we can fix it since all it would take is the Keepers to grant them the ability again. Also possible that they could fix it themselves with all the Azerite everywhere.

Netherdrakes are cool, but the second Blizzard figures that out they’ll start using them again and make them uncool.

Considering that Thrall was just a stand in for the aspect of earth and not the actual aspect of earth (that honour was still Deathwings), the Black Dragonflight might still be able to breed. Which seems to be the case given their presence during Island Expeditions.

You’re correct. Ysera was killed and Elune quickly snatched her soul and sent it on it’s way to the Shadowlands. Keep in mind Ysera died before Argus was killed so the Arbiter was still doing it’s thing and sending souls where they needed to go. Ysera is sent to Aredenweald (would there be any doubt she would end up anywhere else?) and is considered to be a soul so powerful, she has the chance to be born again in life. She is sent to Ardenweald not as a small blue squirrel to run around and sleep, but as a latent sleeping soul to slumber and prepare for rebirth. Enter seed. The Winter Queen gives up a part of her soul to save the seed from being depleted and abandoned during the anima drought. She acknowledges Ysera being the pet of her sister (Elune), and so keeps her around out of respect for principle.

We don’t know if it was Argus or something else that caused the Arbiter to blue screen. Do not paint your headcanon as actual canon please.

Both. They had actually lost their powers and since they were artificiall;y modified that power loss apparrantly rendered them infertile.

Dragons live a long long time. Even if they stop having babies, the peresent generation of PLAYERS AND THEIR GRANDCHILDREN would be long dead before that problem actually removed them from the setting.

Deathwing was too corrupted at the point of his death to be properly thougth of as a nature spirit any longer.

It is actually implied that the WQ was going to let Ysera die for good as “we do what we must in this drought” (but off the record, it probably was out of spite of her sister). It wasn’t until her subjects said that we need to save some otherwise our duty is pointless does she restore Ysera.

My out of spite theory is based on her tone when she calls Ysera her sisters “pet”. Like saying, “I asked you for aid and all you send me was a dragon!!!”.

We don’t know if it was out of spite or if she said it authentically. Do not paint your headcanon as actual canon please.

I see what you are doing but it doesn’t work. As I never said that it was. Just said it probably was. Please read the post before you try and sound smart.
