I guess the trade off is that Chromie time WoD is the fastest way to get to 50.

Actually there is kinda. There’s a skip in pandaria under the timeless isle that gets you to draenor. I’m not sure what it does to the quest chain though.

Unless it changed, you should be able to pick up the quest from Chromie, then go to the Dark Portal and abandon the quest, then go through the portal to the crash site and start the Garrison setup quests.

You don’t even have to do that much.
Just take the Warspear portal in Org, fly to where the Garrison intro quest is and pick it up.
Source: Got 4 alts their Garrisons this weekend doing just that.

Well damn I stand corrected.
Still, the levels you get doing the intro quests they throw at you are handy.
Do you mean… skip the intro entirely and pick it up where you’ve built your garrison?
Cause yeah, baby!
Basically you fly out to timeless isle, go out past the frogs, swim to a cave, sit by a campfire and poof you’re in Draenor (Nagrand I believe, it may vary), your garrison is built and you have skipped the intro and garrison building quests.
I have no idea how this works with Chromie Time though, it was designed to be done at max level when it was put in.

theres a much quicker way now
just accept the chormie time draenor quest
take the teleport to the dark portal
abandon the quest that makes you talk to khadgar
enter the dark portal
you get insta-teleported to your garrison

There are two ways to do it:
- Go to Warspear/Stormshield. If you are Alliance, ride a fishing raft to the shore by the site of your garrison. If you are Horde, you will have to go past Tanaan Jungle to where it meets Gorgrond and have someone pick you up and fly you from there if you are too low a level to have flight. The location is actually marked on the map.
- Talk to Chromie to select WoD. Your character will get the quest to enter Draenor via the Dark Portal. The mage in the portal room at the Warspear/Stormshield portal is highlighted and will transport you to the flight point near the Dark Portal. Go to the Dark Portal. Drop the quest and do not talk to Khadgar. Just run through and you will be at the questgiver to start your garrison.
If you are a high level, you can just show up. If you are a level 10, the Blasted Lands is a level 15 zone, and all the wildlife will be hostile to you, so watch out!

yes there is a skip to draenor, timeless isle have an underater cave with a fire and chairs, by sitting on one of the chair and clicking on the fire, you are ported to gorgrond and then can go to where your garrison is, then just do the 2-3 quests to unlock it and then you are fine
That only works for high levels. Not only does a player have to be level 30 to even go to the Timeless Isle (where it is not safe for a player at that level), but they end up on a rock off the coast of Gorgrond with no way back, since the portal does not work both ways (tried it, going back to the timeless isle is blocked to a low level). So they’ll need a ride anyway.
If someone is 30 and has flying, they can just fly themselves from warspear/stormshield.
Draenor, take the quest to the portal, ditch the quest, go thru portal.
A note about going through the Dark Portal…
You never have to pick up the quest to begin with. Although I think you can take a port straight to Blasted Lands if you do, but it’s not a requirement at all.
Plenty of ways to skip Tanaan Hades.
I prefer the lazy way of using the Draenor scouting map, taking the Org Warspear port and just flying to the garrison FP. Then fly a bit to the west and bam.
