Draenor Flying - Is that needed?

I’m working on the achievement, but I’m starting to think there are better things I could be spending my time on. My gear score is currently only about 338 but I was trying to go back and complete some stuff I missed, but if I’m not going to actually use it, I think a lot of the rest of it could be completed via alts… I’ve already done master treasure hunter and the explorer achievement, so all I have left are the garrison, quest and tanaan rep bits. Should I focus on gear for raiding and worry about this achievement on alts/later?

I will never have WoD flying. I refuse to waste my time getting it now that the expansion is long over.

The good thing about the achievement is alts. Having flying in a new character as soon as you enter the zone speeds it up so much!

A thousand times this. I use dungeon finder exclusively when I hit WoD when lvling an alt JUST because I can’t fly there. Shame really cuz I’ve been there and the zones are beautiful. Can’t be arsed to do irrelevant PF grind though, you should be able to buy WoD flying with gold at this point ffs

Yup. Flying for gold will be the only way I ever fly there.

legacy expacs should have it for purchase

I’ve been working on it for 30 days. This is my main. I’m doing it for alts. Tanaan diplomat is the only long stretch. That only takes 15 minutes a day. Kill the sabermaw champions every day whether you have the quest or not. They drop Fel for the other guys quest which makes your time each day much shorter.

Orrrrrrrr, one could spend 30 days not wanting to kill themselves.

I don’t understand the reasoning for making this so tedious. I’ve seen every inch of every zone just by doing the exploration and treasure hunting bits. I’d also be cool with the quest/storyline stuff because that’s what you’d do if you were leveling through it, but all of this rep and garrison grind crap seems irrelevant at this point and just makes something take an absurd amount of time for the sake of it.

The only thing you need in your garrison is 10k resources and 2kmgold to unlock level 3 and thus tannan jungle.
Use Tom-Tom addon for the treasures and explorer
buy the medallions for the rep
And the quest lines are easily banged out in a weekend.

All in all an easy task

A tired - looking Dwarf, in full Judgement, wielding Blackhand’s Hammer (TLDIFJWBH hereon known as “Pharsalus”) approaches the Sabrestalkers rep.

Pharsalus: “Greetings, Saberstalker representative. I am Pharsalus of Thorium Brotherhood and I wish to fly the skies of Draenor. The God’s of Blizzard have decreed that I must seek favor in your eyes to do so.”

SSR: ‘Oh great another roleplayer’. “Um yeah, go over there and kill about 5,000 of those cat people that look exactly like me.”

P: “Forsooth. That is quite a number. Before I commit genocide on your behalf, might I ask a question or two?”

SSR: “Sure, not like I’m going anywhere. Seem to be rooted to this spot”

P: “Verily. Have those cat people somehow injured you, your clan, or your friends?”

SSR: “Nah, they pretty much hang to themselves.”

P: “Hmm. Do they possess some ancient technology that will allow my mounts to alight?”

SSR: “Nope. They’re pretty much a ‘rock-n-stick’ culture.”

P: “Hmm. Do YOU possess some ancient technology that will allow my mounts to alight?”

SSR: “Again, no”

P: “Well, then, why on earth do I need to commit mass murder on your behalf to FLY?”

SSR: “Look buddy, you want the quest or not?”

P: “Five thousand you say?”

it’s nice because whenever you level alts through WoD they can fly at level 90 and breeze through the content.

This lets you level with the WoD treasure hunter addon quickly with account wide flying. Stacking heirlooms and rested XP with wod treasure hunting it’s probably the fastest leveling content above level 80 per expansion that is not time gated like legion invasions.

I think this is truly what makes pathfinder a compromise and not just a stubborn mandate like people say. Before pathfinder alts always had to level on the ground until max level and then each alt had to buy flying with gold which was usually 5k at least. across 10 alts that’s 50k per expansion.

So if you plan on leveling through WoD again I’d say it’s worth it, but if you only have time to play one main and he never goes to draenor then probably not unless you have raids and mounts you want to farm in WoD in the future.

On my main I’ve gotten a couple rare spawn mounts thanks to WoD flying and getting to old raids for achievs and xmogs are way faster with wod flying, especially if you don’t have all the flight paths.

I would say some reputation buffs are in order if they aren’t in place already, because I do remember during "reputation week’ every dungeon mob you killed gave something like 25 reputation and the guild banner worked on those which is how a lot of people got exalted on the harder reps like laughing skulls.

Since reputation week isn’t a thing anymore since WoD ended I would say a strong buff to rep gains wouldn’t be a bad thing for the timegated stuff.

I find Pathfinder to be a breeze. Earned it for most of my characters while leveling through the first time, and then had flying for everyone else.

That said…

If the ONLY reason you want flying in WoD is for leveling Alts through it you may as well give it a pass. Leveling through from 90 to 100 (or to 98 if you want out as soon as possible) is so fast as to make flying a moot point. I just finished getting my Lightforged through in less than a week, playing only like an hour and a half each day. Did not even get my Garrison buildings finished.

Legion might be a different story, but WoD flies by so fast with quests specific to the garrison storyline in the first zone, it may not be worth your time unless you intend to stick around after you have access to Legion.

The best time to do it is when you’re bored and have no other priorities, or at the end of an expansion when there’s no point gearing.

There should be heritage flight masters in Stormwind and Orgrimmar. They can teach flight in past expansions…

8,000 gold per character for Draenor.
15,000 gold per character for Legion.

If you don’t want to pay the gold, then go get Pathfinder.

With a proper guide, you could probably get Draenor flying in less than two hours. Thankfully I did it when it was relevant.

Unpopular opinion incoming: If you want flying in WOD for any reason including alts, then sit down and get it done. Be smart about time management, and it’ll fly.

For everything other than the reputations, this is easily accomplished in an afternoon. The reputations are the only really time tedious thing. The rest is done quite simply through taking an afternoon and breezing through it with something on in the background.

For the reputations themselves, there are a couple of options involving Tanaan.

  1. Park any and all alts in Tanaan, and kill the big four rares daily on all alts whenever possible. This will give you the possibility at Legion talismans which grant reputation with every WoD faction.
  2. Make sure you check your local auction house every day. If you’re on a highly populated, or faily populated server, there’s always those people who do the same thing I mentioned, and you can purchase them there.
  3. Take the 30 or so minutes a day to bang out the dailies and leave someone parked there for the sake of getting them done.

WoD Pathfinder is easily accomplished and takes a small amount of time investment. If you set aside that one weekend to complete all other parts, and then simply diligently chip away at the reps, you’ll be done in a week or two from where you are now.

The only reason to get flying in Draenor is so that your mog farming alts don’t have to walk to whatever world bosses you’re hoping to get a drop from.

They should either tone down the requirements or drop them all together when an expansion becomes obsolete content.

I disagree. The requirements are simple; you’re just too lazy to complete them.
